Longbows go back to neolithic man at least.
It was the Welsh who made them such an effective medieval weapon of war.
The Normans were so impressed with the Welsh longbows they adopted them and used them to great advantage against the French in the 100 years war.

I haven’t seen any pics or footage yet. After this apt description there is probably no point in putting forth the effort. :)

The humor made me smile a little in spite of the sobering jewel reference. Thanks.

Sweet. A bit ornate for my tastes but I’m not royalty!

Reminds me of the stuff they showed us at the Kremlin.

8 horse power with a dizzy top speed of around 4 mph.
Fully gilded brakes and Moroccan leather independant suspension.

I wonder how many of the low income subjects that would feed for a year.

With all due respect, there is no value IMO for the Monarchy, and things like this pretty much get stuck in my craw.

What specific analysis have you done to come to this conclusion? They cost the taxpayers pennies a year and provide immense value in terms of charitable work, tourism dollars and a sense of history, pageantry and tradition that the UK loves.

The phrase 'pennies per year', applied to this and just about any other subject, is rather deceptive.

Sometimes, you need to look at the whole of something, to get the real picture.

I just had to go to Bradenton Florida today which is near Sarasota and I couldn't help but notice all of the wealthy people's neighborhoods were surrounded by walls.

It appears that some people are a big fan of walls. Probably because they work.

And as I responded originally, sometimes the whole needs to be looked at.

Exactly. Not only are they ridiculously inexpensive, but the dollars they generate for England make it a no-brainer.

I'll remember the 'ridiculously inexpensive' statement as applicable to the restrictions on what can or cannot be spent for certain vital programs.

I'm not aware of any tourists going to England strictly to see the Royals or their abodes. Maybe as included in their trip, but not solely.

And to clarify, I don't agree with you, so I don't know where your 'exactly' statement comes from. But hey, to each their own.

They cost almost nothing and bring in tons of revenue. They are a fantastic ROI. Perhaps you just hate it when a country earns money like that. C'est las vis. To each their own.

You've colored yourself by using the word hate.

Since you consider 86.3 million pounds 'almost nothing', I'm sure you consider the US debt 'vaguely mediocre.

I would happily pay $1.50 / year for something that brings in far more than $85 million/year. LOL. It's called ROI. Now, this is a bar, so if you want to delve deeper, let's move the conversation elsewhere, please. :) Have a great day!
