I loved the museums and the zoos in Chicago. I brought my family up from Alabama once just to see them. My wife had never seen anything like it. She is from Alabama. We also went to Chinatown. It was very different.

Where do you live that they let you expose your pipe? Most places I know of will get you arrested for that.

So, with all this talk of cold weather, here's something fun.

We leave Thursday for our annual camping trip. After 20+ years, I can say we've had every sort of weather imaginable. The worst was it getting into the low 30s overnight. We sleep in a tent! Sometimes it's 80, and intolerable. In general, though, it's pleasant.

Our forecast for this week has us getting into the low 40s one night. So, not the worst, but sub ideal, for sure. We bring the heated blanket when it's this cold. It keeps the air mattress warm. Our sleeping bags + warm clothes will keep us comfy all night, except for the part where you have to pee at 4:00 a.m.!

We do have electricity and water.

In general, though, I'm not a wake up every two hours to pee, person. If I can keep the beer drinking to a minimum, I may make it until 7! (LOL, it's camping.)

Chatting with my brother once and he said he and wifey were camping.. I envisioned them sitting around a campfire with a tent set up.. and then it dawned on me,, they have a travel trailer that's bigger than some apartments around here and nicer than most of the houses!

yeah I'm 64 now,, the peeing every two hours is a relatively recent thing.

Ohhhkay.... 19 degrees this a.m., same as the past few days. No wonder the cat chose to stay in the house, when normally he's out and about for the day.

We are having a bit of a cold snap here, we don't normally see this kind of prolonged cold until some time in February. Farmer's tales, early cold means an early Spring.

What are the 'Farmer's Tales' in your area for weather indicators?

Hmmm, 20s and 30s pretty much every day here. Once in a while upper teens and low 40s.

    Centigrade.

Mild winter, I haven't had a craving for nuts and high carbohydrates, and , I am guessing, mild summer, last year we didn't hit triple digits until early summer, and there were not has many of them in a row.. typically, we go triple digits by May and stay there until the first of Sept.

oh! we have pecan trees.. two. I fill up huge treerings for the tiny things (under six foot) . the prepare the site for planting, I dig up about a 5ft cubed hole, and dump in loose dark soil and a couple of bags of potting soil, give there little roots some where to go until they get big enough to break the hard pack...(if ever)

Texas pecans are great. I still have pecans in the freezer from 2020. We had a bumper crop and last year nothing. Nada. When we don't get pecans on our trees I order from a place in Georgetown, Texas.

Most of my orders have made it, weeks longewr than the delivery y'all are used to. My LOTR extended version DVD set is in limbo, ordered one for my son at the same time, he's had it for a couple of weeks. Checked the tracking, sez it at the UPS depot some 90 miles away.. AND the PO here has closed the customer service counter because "covid" Gonna wait until next week before I report it lost.

20220115_163403.jpg Built this tabletop out of pallet wood. The wood is pretty to me....craftmenship??? I always want to blame my tools, this indicates a sub par craftsman.
