a strike out of the blue, saw his opportunity and didn't hesitate, nice....

you were probably a wee lassie at the time but here's a goal that still sends Jocko's into multiple orgasms when they recall it...

Knife fights, nails in cleats, cheating... I can only take so much nonsense. All the guys that talk a big game are cowards at heart. Like I said, they are all the same and they never last.

I could never do rugby. When I was a kid, playing American football would have been a stretch for me. I was the smallest kid in my class for so many years and I didn't want to be steamrolled by much bigger kids. And in American football, you have equipment. Rugby, on the other hand, is more violent and no equipment is used. I also broke my spine a few years ago and have 2 metal rods in my spine. I can walk, I can run too, miraculously. My issue is getting into the stuff rugby has. Soccer might be rough, but I've played soccer and I can avoid getting hit in the back. Rugby, not so much.

Careful now. Kicking a soccer ball at someone is basically attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Wyly knows a guy who's stomach exploded from such a blow.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I would say you probably have way more heart that our internet tough guy in this thread talking nonsense about knife fights and nails in cleats. Learning to walk again must have been excruciating. I can't even imagine.

I would stay away from any contact sport, let alone rugby. With rods in your spine, you would increase the chances of something happening again by a long shot. There are plenty if non-contact competitive sports that are a blast to play.

Actually, if you look closely, I think there were nails in the ball! Must have been Wyly's league. :omg:

I'm okay now. Being weak for a while was the hard part. My father recommended that I stop taking karate. The spine fracture came from falling off of a bicycle though.

Swimming is what helped me alot. If I go swimming, my back gets stretched and it feels better.

But I wouldn't recommend playing rugby either. Too much risk. I talked to a guy who plays rugby. According to him it would be a big risk.

Indeed Saturn, swimming is incredible. You will most def. strengthen the muscles around your back muscles. In fact, swimming works more muscles than anything I can think of.

Swimming probably is the perfect exercise, no stress on the joints and all muscle groups are used...

that excercise is good for casual and overall longevity but the olymypic guys who do it as sport suffer injuries like mike phelps, its mostly muscle strains and ligament tears so it could be stressful under heavy competition on the muscles imo

that's what I thought as well but the orthopedic surgeon who rebuilt my knee tells me that many swimmers have a lot of shoulder problems that require surgical repair...but at least they don't need their arms to walk...climbing stairs is becoming a real pain for me...

Could that be a result of those muscles being overworked with no ample time to repair themselves?

    Oh I definitely would...

He got pics (presumably of his face, not his abs...haha). If they're any good, I will post. Or might just keep them to myself..

None of you will understand a word they're saying (it's Broad Scots) until the Hollywood version starts midway through it...

I don't remember it, but the player is legendary and that World Cup fiasco is a bit of a legend as well. I understand he passed 3 Dutch defenders before slotting that away. Are you Scottish or Scots descent? Nearly everybody in NZ is. But my husband's team is Peru. :omg:

    Pics..pics...:-D

I've heard worse, I had a teammate from the slums of Glasgow
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc55XJY4wEU&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc55XJY4wEU&feature=related[/ame]
english like I've never heard before...I asked another teammate from Ireland to translate and he said "i haven't ****in clue what he's saying"...

I remember it because I was born a "Cloggie" ...not my favourite WC either, Peru's commitment to winning was questionable...

...I said it to my husband, soldier boy. And he told me the guy is just a young boy, nice but very shy.:bored:

It's not English, it's Broad Scots which is a listed EU language now and distinct from English. That boy is not particularly scruffy, he's not too bad compared to some. Have you heard the Doric dialect? That makes me laugh more, because most people who are not Scottish will say they love the East coast Scottish accent. Like us, they are bilingual. This is how they really speak...furry boots are ye fae ken?
