    No reason to think that.

Whoever wins needs to strengthen it not get rid of it.At the very least the current cap on earnings needs to be lifted considerably.

If dems win the house they may threaten to weaken it by doing nothing, which they have pledged to do.

Something needs to be done regardless who wins.
SS needs to be ensured for everyone whose paid into it
Secondly it needs to be a more profitable investment.
Lastly they need to quit upping the retirement age

Does that mean privatizing Social Security?

I don't know what it means, i know people deserve a better return on investment. Especially because the money is forcibly taken from them.

Yes, the Republicans' goal, under Trump, is to get rid of Social Security. They've been wanting to get rid of it since it was started. They just never dreamed we'd have a President like Trump that would make it possible. When it's gone the Republicans can reduce taxes by a large amount and still have a balanced budget.

The Republicans have had several opportunities to do that through the decades and they've never done it.
If SS would cash me out with only my contribution. I'd take it and invest it myself.
A basic 401 k is better than ss

If they scrapped it, can't see taxes reducing by much, if any.

No. They might be able to reduce your benefits some, but even that's a longshot. Relax, old people are the government largesse recipients the Republicans can't touch.

    Won't happen for two reasons:

S.S. is too popular, eliminating it would be political suicide.

    Also the Democrats won't lose.

While it may be popular with some, it isn't popular with others. Because I was forced to pay into it, I damn well want to get my money back. That fact certainly does not mean I like Social Security.

Rediculous. Republicans had the house, Senate and presidency twice in my lifetime and didnt do anything to social security. Nor do they even say this. This is just silly fear mongering.

If you stopped with just what you paid in that would be different.

Do I get to include a modest rate of return? How about we use the stock market as a basis for that return?
