sadly it was a smart move, so many thought no way could Trump win, that they did not bother voting - Trump wont fool the American people twice

2016 was a fluke, and the American non-voters deserved a terrible president, which they got.

The ever-increasing election turn outs in 2017 and 2018 because of the fluke have led to ever-increasing blue victories.

Everyone keep up the good work right through election day 2020.

They may be unpleasant, they may be stupid, but they are not suicidal.

The real danger to Social Security comes from the arrangements to fund it. That's where everyone's attention should be turned.

They know that. They're just fooling around ... sort of like kids scaring each other about the monster that lives in the attic.

Remember, Trump is Hitler. And Hitler actually had a pretty good social security system for the Germans.

I voted Johnson, you remember, the not pond scum candidate.

    Thanks.

Actually, I can't tell you! I read articles on it from time to time, which have made me think that it's not on a sound footing.
But I don't know the details and cannot defend my argument with facts and figures. Only so many hours in the day and I have to prioritize.

However ... perhaps you can make the case that there's nothing to worry about and someone who knows more about it than me can rebut. But if all the clever people from Left and Right here agree that all is well, I'll probably change my opinion. One less thing to worry about.

It will be interesting, to see someone from the Left defending the soundness of American capitalism for once.

So if the system is not rigged for private investors now, why would moving this money from SS to private be any different?

If the amount the average worker pays into SS is enough to buy a home, that could be passed down to the next generation, who would then do the same. Wouldn't that be a better way to provide security to society? SS could be phased out completely in a few generations. Of course, politicians with D's and Rs by their name will try to convince you that your money is better off under their control. Hows that working out for you?

Oh I thought there was some outlandish funding scheme I hadn't heard of.

Making Social Security whole permanently requires a single reform: End the cap.

Okay, it's one of those things, like international finance, that will have to remain a mystery for me, until I've got a few spare months.

    Yes, end the cap.

The taxes collected would be much more than necessary to fund SS, so the legislators could have a lot of money extra to fund a lot of pork.

I think Singapore has something like this. It's called 'the Central Provident Fund'. Click on that name to learn more.

I think the key issue is coercion. A good libertarian would not approve of any scheme people are forced to take part in, the rest of us would. Especially the rest of us who are over forty, because we know how improvident we were at twenty.

See, there's always something people can find common ground in.

To be fair, I still prefer Trump_Daddy Wall-Hanger over Hitlery Cancer.

Because of the advancements in Health Care and Insurance Coverage, whether you like it or not: people are living well past 65. The AS and Medicare systems were based on the Actuarial numbers that Insurance Companies used. As life expectancy increases the benefits the Government will owe drastically increases.

Something will have to give to insure people can get the benefits when they need them. You can take them early or wait right now.

This is one of the biggest reasons that they may need to raise the age you need to attain to get 100% of your benefits.

I wouldn't know because I'm not a legislator. Leaders from both parties, and experts in the field, have put forth these possibilities, all of which seem doable to me.

    Not "open borders".

Who in the **** has stated that they're in favor of that?

    What "possibilities"?

Just so that you know, general concepts are not remotely legislation, nor even a policy.

Your interpretation doesn't make it "open borders". Hell, it's not even close.

Well, let me put it to you this way.

Anyone with an intellect greater than a Chimpanzee, can understand decriminalization of illegal border crossing (IKR? Boggles the mind) is touting open borders, which, as everyone who has followed anything political over the last 3 years knows, means open borders from the left.
