So, Ms. Ponsetto, the SoHo Karen, has been berated by multiple media for wearing a baseball hat with the word Daddy during her interview with Gayle King.

I'm confused. I know about the connotation of "Suggar Daddy" but I don't think it's what they are getting at. I don't know what Daddy Gang is.

Would someone tell me what the fuzz about her baseball hat is?

This said, yes, if you watch the interview, this young lady seems to be unwell. Her lawyer has said as much and is likely to drop her, as the lawyer has complained already that she doesn't listen to her legal advice.

SoHo Karen has been arrested and charged with four felonies; she is being held without bail, awaiting extradition to New York where she will be prosecuted.

Yeah, my guess is if you let trump grab your crotch you get a daddy cap. Sort of a take off on 'whose your daddy'.

I thought she was a LOT! Hotter until I saw her with her Mask Off, kind of BUTTAFACE, should have done the interview with her Mask on.

Um, this seems to be based on a story, and the details of that story are not presented or summarized in this thread.

That can make it difficult for people to follow what this thread is about, or why this woman is of any importance.

Okay, so pretend I never read the news or watch TV.
How would this story make any sense at all to me or be meaningful?

I wish people would think more before posting threads like this, and stop assuming all the readers already know everything that they already know.
You do realize most people know nothing about this woman and nothing about her background story?
And because you didn't summarize that for them, most people are just going to ignore this thread discussion?

Uh, what? Did you somehow miss the fact that the two first lines in my original post are links that contain the full story, especially the second one???

What part of this you didn't understand, @kazenatsu ?

Besides, the thread was not to comment on her story... the thread was to ask a QUESTION about the meaning of this Daddy hat. Even if nobody knew anything about the woman (despite my link providing the full story), the question would still apply.

In this thread I'm not interested in discussing the situation. I'm interested in finding out what's the big bruhaha about this Daddy thing, which obviously precedes this woman's story.

Hey, this is not so hard to figure out... if you pay attention to the thread's title. It's precisely the question I'm asking, followed by an interrogation mark. Again, what part of the goal of this thread you didn't understand, when it's explicitly said in the very freaking title and repeated in the body of the original post???

    Gee!

To paraphrase you, I wish people would think more before posting responses like yours.

Finally, if you disagree with this thread, why in the HELL are you replying to it? If you have nothing to contribute in the matter of responding to the question, stay away, please. Nobody is forcing you to post here.

Okay, sorry. If that was the main point in this thread, then that should be okay.

sounds like she is making this all worse on herself

"But Ponsetto wouldn’t stop her vehicle until she pulled up to her house, and even then refused to get out of the car. She tried to slam a car door on one of the deputies and had to be physically removed from her vehicle, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told NBC News."

I can feel for someone that loses their phone, and thinks someone stole it (even falsely), but at that point you call the cops, you do not assault them, especially a child

she is gonna learn a hard life lesson from her actions it seems

as for the topic, I am still confused what the "daddy" means, maybe I am getting too old

OK, I finally got to some explanation. I can't say I fully get it but at least it is a bit of an explanation:

    Another site says:

And there is this, from Urban Dictionary:

Now, the above I believe fits better her intention. She was very arrogant during the interview and thinks of herself as very special.

But this explanation on YouTube (apparently a bunch of people had the same doubts I had, and tried to get an explanation too, is the best one in my opinion: she was trying to infantilize herself, to appear like the confrontation was just a little squabble between two kids, and not criminal, which she does say in the interview.

She actually has a defense that seems perfectly legitimate in 2021 America.
