From the Economic Policy Institute: Solid jobs report shows an economy marching towards full employment

    Excerpt:
Of course, Donald Dork will take the credit for this "remarkable achievement", when it all really started during the Obama Administration in 2014. When the Employment to population ratio started moving upwards again percentagewise.

After having been willingly kept low because the Replicants tried to get Obama voted out of office with high-unemployment during his first term of office. Didn't work, did it.

That episode in our political history simply shows how low these people will go to obtain and maintain power.

I am a centrist and believe fully that a political diversity Left-Center-Right is necessary. Some of us are religiously on the Left or Right - and a great many willingly change sides to vote in the middle.

All that seems perfectly normal to both a country and an economy with its thinking cap on. What is abnormal is country that allows the popular-vote to be corrupted by the Electoral College and Gerrymandering ...

State appointed electors is one of the main reasons why the states agreed to their treaty. Were the president elected via a plebiscite many of the states would not have ratified the treaty.

Which made sense at the time, but no longer in the 21st century. The constitution needs amended to abolish the EC. There should never be an instance where the leader of the this country was voted DOWN by the majority of the American people.

Unlimited access to information, in the 21st century. Didn’t exist in 18th century. So EC made sense.

The system of electing the president was not chosen because of information. It was agreed upon in order to balance the interests of the less populous states versus the more populous states. It was part of the treaty among the sovereign states when they constituted the general government.

    UNACCEPTABLE INCOME DISPARITY

Sense to whom? The landed gentry, that's who.

We replaced a King with a federal government. That's GREAT!

What we did not replace is the keenness of some people to MANIPULATE GOVERNANCE (in a so-called "free country") such that they can enjoy a privileged status from the ability to accumulate riches producing very large and unacceptable Income Disparity. (In fact, the worst of any developed economy on this planet.)

Income Disparity happens naturally in an economy. Socialism (now dead except in North Korea) showed that all people earning the same income deadens incentive. So, we cannot tolerate that either.

But, the opposite effect - ebullient incentive to amass riches whilst forgetting a very large Poverty Threshold population - is just-as-unfair!

Incentive is a necessary central characteristic of any market-economy.

But we've let it get way-out-of-hand by ridiculously low upper-income taxation that permits (1) wild Income Disparity and (2) its prolongation by means of far too weak Inheritance Taxation.

Nobody, family or no family, deserves to receive unentitled riches brought about from excessively weak original income-taxation of revenues. Nobody!

    My Point:
*Donald Dork wants to leave his kids the "pork barrel" that his father had left him (and his brothers/sisters).
*If you are bequeathed 40 megabucks, do you think you deserve very low taxation because of your "hard-earned" returns on that money that you will leave your children also lightly taxed?
*I don't because it simply prolongs an unfair system that should never have been allowed in the first place - one that has existed since the dawn of time and needs changing forever now!
*But not by a socialist-system of state-designated income rates. The market-economy must prevail.

The EC "makes sense" when it connives to illegitimate the popular-vote?

Nope. It's gotta go! Along with the Gerrymandering.

Both are relics of a time-past when leaders of the nation wanted to "assure certain outcomes". (Like the south that should not be forced to free its slaves, whilst most of Europe in the early 19th century was actually doing that!)

We are wayyyyyyy beyond that time nowadays but still have the same warped outcome in terms of Net Incomes. Why else would blacks and Latins earn typically less than whites? (MLK is likely rolling over in his grave to see what is happening to his "dream".)

We have in this nation the warped-mentality of a specific party that remains wedded to the notion that Might Is Right - that "might" being illegitimately-earned* and untaxed income and "right" being the ability to manipulate elections by any and all means to maintain that desired status-quo ...

*Illegitimate? Howzzat? By means of the mad rush over the past 3/4 decades to oligopolized American-markets by means of massive buy-outs of competitors that government market oversight-authorities have allowed to happen. The process of which allows several oligopoly companies that do not really compete to maintain higher-than-"normally-competitive-pricing" to gouge markets!

and it's irrelevant in the 21st century. There should never be a time where a president is elected when the majority of americans voted for another candidate. That is not a free or democratic election.

Per the treaty between the sovereign states, only state appointed electors vote for the president.

Wasn't the economy expected to crash in less than a year of Trump being elected? So you are saying the economy is too powerful to be influenced by what the government does?

The state appointed electors have the freedom to vote for whomever they choose. It's a free election.

    A HISTORY OF FACTS

Yes, Bush2 handed to Obama the Great Recession on a platter. (You're in an Economics Forum. Have you noticed?) That recession took hold in 2008/2009 because of the sub-prime mess that had been promoted by Wall Street!

Some facts that you refuse to understand because of historical blindness to what happened statistically to American employment levels:
*The first measure Obama took in office was the ARRA-bill that disbursed $831B of stimulus spending in 2009/10. The spending spiked an exploding unemployment rate at 10%. See that fact substantiated in the BLS infographic here.
*In the 2010 mid-terms, only around 37% of the voting-age population went to the polls (see here) to move control of the HofR to the Replicants to punish Obama for not ending the Great Recession sooner!
*The Replicant HofR promptly refused to vote any further stimulus spending, giving the American public the idiotic reason that the "US Deficit was too high".
*The result being that no-new-jobs were created from 2010 to 2014 according to the BLS historical chart "Employment-to-population Ratio" here.
*And if you look at today's value of the "E-to-p Ratio", note that since 2014 the ratio has not yet recovered to the 63% of pre-Great-Recession 2008 levels. It still has about 2.5% more to go.
*The US has still to recover to the higher E-to-p Rate of 63% that existed pre-2008. And given the arrival of the Information Age, those jobs have likely been lost forever to the Far East.

    Wakey, wakey* ... !

*Meaning what? That either we start educating our children - free, gratis and for nothing - to a higher level of competency by means of post-secondary education or they are likely to live their lives in relative poverty! (And don't say "we weren't warned!" Because you were!)

Heard that remark from the telly, did you?

The economy was recovering two-years before the election of Donald Dork. See the Employment to population Ratio (from here):
In 2014, with no help whatsoever from a Replicant HofR, the economy finally started to cure itself by creating jobs!

What had had occurred between 2010 and 2014? This happened:
*The American voting public (all 39% of it that voted in 2010*) gave the HofR over to the Replicants.
*Who refused all further stimulus-spending in order to oust Obama from the presidency in 2012.
*The ploy did not work, did it? But Replicant obstinacy caused the American public to bear the brunt of high-unemployment and NO JOB CREATION UNTIL 2014!

*See that fact corroborated by Pew Research here.

    Bollocks.

Read the history. Obama was screwed by the Replicants! They hated his guts, and still do.

He stood for a nation that cannot exist without radical change. But Ameicans are "dreamers". They think-'n-hope that the good-ole days are coming back forever.

(But they aint. History is history. Always has been, always will be.)

We are entering into an Age Change that the world has never ever seen before. There is no more communism to hold back low employment-cost countries. Manufacturing is going "off-shore" - so we are left with Services Industries to employ people.

But the services-industries require a higher set of abilities that only a post-secondary degree can provide - the cost of which today is prohibitively far too expensive. Only half the students today who try to obtain such a degree actually achieve doing so ...

The president is not elected by American voters, but by an institution that can and has voted against the will of the American people, which is why we are currently saddled with this moron as president.

You are absolutely correct. The president is not elected by American voters but is chosen by electors appointed by the state legislatures.
