Made me smile, but a couple of times, but still sounds a lot like his, "If I Were A Carpenter."

Hope you don't mind if I stick this in here.

@Turtledude -- sorry that last post didn't include a Hardin version of his song; I was still shifting songs around, to see how it best fit, & accidentally hit "Reply." But I think I was at the song limit, anyway. And it gave me time to find, I think, the best Hardin version-- which you can hear, after two warm up acts:

    Do for the Others-- Stills

I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado-- Denver

If I Were A Carpenter-- Hardin. Live at Woodstock.

    Patience-- Guns N' Roses.

I forgot this was the alphabetical thread-- we're on "T," for whoever's interested in knowing.

I am pretty familiar with all of those, but IMHO Small Faces cover of If I were a Carpenter (which I have posted on this thread in the past) is the best. I never heard much of them until stuff like youtube appeared-they never got any airplay in the areas I grew up in or attended university

For "T," here is Jennifer Nettles, from her album of classic songs, Always Like New (all show tunes, I think).

    Three Days In Bed

If you're hungry for a little bit more, follow my link, below, to the "What Are You Listening To Now?" music thread, for an inspiring rendition of "You Will Be Found," performed on a Broadway stage.

Since we're going A-Z I'm going to take the liberty of dropping a number - 2112 - in here:

The album and opening song, "The Temples of Syrinx", appears at first glance to be about some dystopian sci-fi fantasy world but in fact the references to the "red star", etc., reveal that it was really about the real dystopian world that existed beyond the Iron Curtain in the 1970s when 2112 was released. Neil Peart and the band deserve a helluva lot of credit for touching on the subject of Communism and its evils, and Rush caught a lot of hell about it and songs like "Anthem" (inspired by the Ayn Rand novel), but it's part of what made him and the band so great, and unfortunately in this regard, unique.

Sadly, we lost The Professor in 2020 to brain cancer but his songs and lyrics will live forever.

Bonus songs, the aforementioned "Anthem" and "Free Will":

Well, from my past experience, I'm expecting that Talon's "dropping a number," would stand a good chance of leading the next contributor to assume we were on either "B" or "G," depending on which song title had caught his eye (Anthem, or Freewill). Therefore, so I don't miss my chance, I am going to jump "V," which I had been waiting for someone to fill, to post this Linkin Park song. I'd held it apart from a set I posted in the other song thread, because I'd seen that we were close to "W," in this one.

    What I've Done-- Linkin Park

And here is a cover version, by First To Eleven.

Here is a link to the first of my two related posts, in that other thread. (Also, at the top of the following page, I noticed that Talon posted another of Linkin Park's songs, "Somewhere I Belong.")

It's catchy, I'll admit. I started singing along with the repeated "You better believe it," line.

when these guys were big-I had no access to anyway of hearing these guys. Even living in New Haven and Ithaca, I never heard of them. they were way ahead of their time. I did hear humble pie and when peter Frampton moved to Cincinnati, they got more local airplay and once you tube showed up I could really learn about these guys. Marriott was as good a front man as Ian Anderson, Joe Strummer, or Robert Plant IMHO

Before we restart at "A," I will close out this cycle (unless somebody has a "Z" they'd like to post) by picking up the "V," which I just recently jumped over. Our discussions, in these music threads, have led to my looking into Mark E. Smith's The Fall, and this is one of my favorites, so far: the "history lesson," titled Various Times

Here is a high energy, live version, with some additional, explanatory lyrics

This is a different, live version, with less bass, and more emphasis on rhythm, including hand drums; contributing to the new timbre, is a chimey sounding guitar, as well (I guess that's the way they like it, in Reykajavik)

Next, is a harder rendition of the song, by a band named Wreck; though I prefer the original.

Lastly, another studio version, a little bit slower, and slightly more bassy, than the one at top.

Look at what "D" song, just popped into my head. I had recalled this, as having an R&B flavor, but it is actually much more Latin, and Disco, but with a different sound than the '70's style-- more electronic, but also incorporating something of a street vibe (as well as other vocalizations, I'd rather just let you hear, without my trying to describe them). From 1986, this is Nice & Wild's

    Diamond Girl

This cover, by Stevie B., is done very much like the original, but may have slightly better sound

Of course. My memory of the Seals & Crofts song is much stronger than of the other, with the same title. While the S & C song is also a good one, the two are very different from one another.

The Nice & Wild song actually reminds me of this other song from that time, that I also, always thought "rocked."

RESPECT! I miss this kind of music. We used to refer to this genre as "freestyle" but I know that can be applied to al ot of thigns. Great song and great to not feel like a dinosaur for once knowing someone else on here knows who stevie B is!
