Looks like things are heating up in the Straits -

Ships in Hormuz are like shooting fish in a barrel - Target practice for Iran's cruise missiles.

Strike 1:The ship was in Iran's territorial water.
Strike 2: The ship was also alleged to be in violation of maritime pollution laws.

Iran is in the right so far.

Iran is in the right regardless of where it captured the ship. South Korea owes Iran a whole lot of money and refuses to pay .. so - it is repo time !

Yes, I see now. South Korea owes Iran 6 billion dollars in oil trade but has refused to pay for more than 2 years now. S. Korean now says that it is holding payment in lieu of Iran's confiscation of the S. Korean tanker yesterday. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense...... not. I wonder how much a laden tanker is worth?

Yes, I heard that was why they had taken the ship.

7 Billion in bank in S-Korea - that the Gov't froze - citing Trump's unilateral sanctions as the justification.

Iran needs to seize a whole lot more ships .. and perhaps sink their destroyer when it shows up .. and then still demand their money back.

What would the US do to a nation that did such a thing to them ? - in context of sanctions .. and so on. .. Maybe seize a ship or two.

Tit for Tat .. SK is playing with fire and deserves to get burned - tongue too far up Donald's rather large backside and not thinking .. ooops Donald might be gone one day .. and US foreign policy changes with the wind these days .. not to be trusted in general..

Bad move on the chessboard methinks for SK - long term .. don't see much upside .. a pat on the butt from Biden in the back room perhaps .

"Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha declined to speculate on reports that Iran seized the ship to try to pressure Seoul into unlocking Iranian assets". https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-55540507

7-8 Billion was the number I read - seized due to Trumps Unilateral sanctions which I speak about in post 8.

This is standard procedure for the Chinese .. any cheesy reason will do .. and for a few other nations we could mention - Yeah Assange :)

What's good for the goose - is good for the gander - Unless you are the Sole Economic Power - in which case it is do as we say - not as we do ! .. and everyone is happy to oblige .. cause everyone wants to play - and you are the only game in town.

Problem is - we are no longer the only game in town - not by a long shot - Now there are many competitors ... and the board has changed. .. yet we are still acting as if it hasn't .. and so we are starting to experience the gander side of things.. and I am not happy about it.

Not sure if you have ever read one of my "FK u" rants .. listing all the times nations have been giving us the finger due to these sanctions .. at a time when we need these economic allies in the trade war against china.

Massive Trump Blunder - waging economic war with the world -at the same time as having a Trade war with China.

Yes, and now the b'stards claim they are withholding payment to Iran because of this incident yesterday! More than two years now they haven't made a payment but it is because Iran confiscated one of their tankers ..... yesterday?! What are the Koreans, kindergarten children?

There is some rumbling in the bushes - the rhetoric heating up - - Iran just submitted a list of 40 or so US personnel they claim are implicated in the death of Soleimani - to Interpol. Interpol rejected it of course but . .. it was basically the equivalent of submitting a hit list.

and why not .. Tit for tat .. Lets normalize targeted assassination among nation states - and as if Soleimani was not bad enough - they follow up with targeting a civilian - the nuke scientist .. which was 100% a political assassination .. as his killing would not deter the nuke program by one second. Iran knows everything they need to know.. its just a matter of enrichment.. and that they have had hundreds of scientists working on for decades....

Not Good precedent - and it is not like the rest of the world is not watching .. So I guess next time Putin should just use a bullet or explosive to take someone out .. not go to all the trouble of 'Novichok" or what ever that joke of a false flag was.

Iran, the neighborhood bully, took the law into its own hands and took over a foreign tanker.
The tanker is worth much much less than the debt it deserves, also there are international courts that discuss such issues.

... who offered to help the U.S. chase down Al Qaida and locate bin Laden after 9/11.

The "foreign" tanker had trespassed into Iran's "territorial" waters. That is a crime.

So, unless South Korea sends more of its ships into Iran's national waters Iran will still be short, right? Now if Korea continues its shenanigans .... then the added worth of ships acquired will rise. But maybe you do not understand how these things work. If you owe me 8 billion dollars but you refuse to pay, then wangling 1 billion out of you is at least something.

If the international courts are not willing to bring South Korea to justice over the 8 billion owed then why would Iran trust the same international courts to punish South Korean for trespassing into Iran territorial waters? do you know what "duh" means? :b0x0rz:

I read another story that said Korea had kept the money to honor US sanctions against Iran.

Sheer piracy! They're walking a fine line, enough to try to goad Trump in his final days but not enough to immediately justify US action, who wants to bet they'll release this tanker when Biden takes power, just as they released the Embassy hostages when Reagan was inaugurated. The Iranians are such a pack of hoodlums and Trump should nuke them on his way out of office.

They all just need to wait. Beijing Biden will give Iran $50 billion to give the ship back.

That is most certainly a spin on Korea's part and an unethical ploy by the United Snakes. If I owe you money it is on my honour for me to pay you back. It is not only a business agreement but also a gentleman's agreement. To tell you to stick it up your ass because you and a friend of mine are not on friendly terms is ...... well, I have no words for it!

Well, you see Walmart, I know that I bought a whole bunch of stuff from you "on credit" but my best friend refuses to purchase anything from you, so ........ I'm not going to pay what I owe you in order to prove my loyalty to my friend's disapproval of your products/services. My friend's butt-hurt emotional state is more important than my honour & ethics. :rip:

Piracy it is - but what do you call S-Korea seizing 7 Billion of Iranian Cash - whats the word for that Robert ?

and yeah .. Lets just Nuke em -

Holy Carp - what train did you fall in front of ... I mean get off of.

How about we just Nuke Israel while we are at it .. in fact .. lets take out the whole ME - Why not . after all . they are such a pack of Hoodlums ..

So your justification for nuking a nation of 80 Million People is because - these hoodlums are encroaching on our turf ? We of course being the biggest hoodlums on the block - hand in hand wiht Brother El Saud - of whom you are a devoted admirer - Much better than those Syrian Scum fighting for Assad..

So OK .. got it .. they on our turf .. Nuke em. Whose next .. there are others encroaching on our turf .. way bigger fish than Iran - which one should we nuke next ?

The South Korean ship was tresspasssing into Iran's terriroorial waters. That is a crime. Confiscating and preserving evidence is not a crime or piracy.

Who wants to bet they'll release this tanker when a fair and just solution is reached.

Those hostages were taken because the CIA had destroyed the Democratic government of Iran and kept the country under Fascism for 25 years. Reagan (apparently) made amends over the issue. It is up to South Korea to make amends with Iran if it expects a favourable outcome.

    Childish and silly.

I call it international sanctions against a terrorist sponsoring regime trying to acquire nuclear weapons. We won't nuke Israel because they are a free and democratic society who only want peaceful coexistence with the rest of the world. Iran is one of the greatest threats to the entire free world.
