So, tens of thousands of people are in stage 3 of various COVID-19 vaccine tests. Some get the vaccine, others a placebo. But how does this work exactly? I am guessing that nearly all the volunteers are acutely aware of the dangers of the disease. If nearly all use masks and do social distancing, will there be enough of them who catch the virus to measure the effectiveness of the vaccine?

Ideally, you should be giving the vaccine to groups you know will likely be exposed to the disease: reckless party goers and prisoners living in tight quarters. But in the latter case, this would be politically incorrect because you would hear social justice warriors screaming about “black men used as guinea pigs in medical experiments.”

Pretty sure that they will know what they are doing.

    1) Google it.

    2) Statistically, yes.

    3) Why be half assed, inject it.

    4) Actually, minorities are underrepresented in the trials. However, medical ethics and the law have things to say about how we use people in experiments. Those are not 'SJW', medical care is built on trust. Squandering that trust is a short road to disaster.

I assume that the trials are using younger folks in good health so that if they do catch it they don’t die.

How that affects the results I can’t say

That's one of the reasons China is testing in Brazil. Better chance of infection.
Ours will be better controlled, but they will have more numbers.

    I don't think so.
I think they are trying to test it in the same proportions that are catching it now so they can see, for example, that it works as good in blacks as whites.
