Well at this point, 10 years before the Kirk era, there is virtually no difference between the Prime Universe and the "Kelvin Timeline."

    Major SUCKED!

    Poor production quality.
    Poor script.
Seemed more like it was a video game promo than a show.
Now I understand why it is only available by something called CBS Access and not normal CBS channels.

And I was so looking forward to seeing Michelle Yeoh  :blowkiss:
I doubt I will see her again in this Star Trek.

    True for All Hollywood!
"They" need to invest in script writers.
Weak scripts don't carry a show just because there is stars or franchise support.
The original Star Trek had adaptations of scripts written by renowned writers as did Twilight Zone of the Rod Serling days.

BTW Lucifer on Fox is particularly good but, it is derived from a comic book.
And those guys take their writing seriously. ;)

The "go grrrl nonsense" is pervasive in tv. The idea that all these skinny models can beat up big trained men is tv fantasy. The worst was "Burn Notice" where Gabrielle would go beat up 2 or 3 body guards.

Women see that and get a false sense of reality, they get the idea that women can do anything men can do. They show up in wrestling or football or martial arts or Marine Corps self-defense or Ranger School and get their asses totally beaten. Then they complain that its unfair and the "standards are biased".

This has been an issue in television & movies for a generation, and on film, it's kind of fun, but it's had a pretty bad effect that have lead 90 pound women to think with a couple of moves they can take on a 260 pound bruiser. I can't imagine how many women in real life have been injured or killed because of that delusion.

Ya, I think they thought the first episodes cliffhanger would entice us to buy the all access pass, but all it did was left me undecided if I liked the show. I sure do not want to purchase an all access pass to find out if I do or not.

And its driven the political agenda - women in the military, law enforcement, firefighters. People think women really can do those jobs, and when it turns out the huge majority of women cannot do them, then they conclude its bias. So not only women get hurt, but society in general.

Science fiction is full of instances of main character getting really lucky. Why are you complaining now?

The new Star Trek reboot in 2009 gave Klingons their new look along with other species, and even next generation gave species new looks itself. This isn't 1995 anymore.

From watching the first episode it exceeded my expectations so far. I really like this human vs Klingon theme and it creates a real sense of danger. The main characters have personality and are well acted. The visuals and story is really good. Lets see if this show can keep a compelling story.

Anyone know where I can watch it for free?

I think it's gunna suck. I hate the "new" Klingons. Why are there new races in the prequels?

Just remember... you're analyzing a tv show where the primary mode of transportion is vaporizing a human (killing them) and immediately replicating an exact copy somewhere else.

Try not to be too critical here.

I thought it was pretty damn good.

Not bothered by the "updated" look of the tech. I am extremely impressed by the cinematic quality of the visuals.

Interesting POV for the story line centering around the obligatory half breed human/alien as first officer. (sarak's ward no less).

The aliens (particularly the klingons) are more fully "realized" and I liked the subtitles since aliens speaking english as their native language has always been a pet peeve of mine despite recognizing its storytelling utility.

I think it shows lots of promise.

Episode 3 was the real pilot episode it seems, and I liked it quite a bit. If they can keep this level up, it's going to be a great show!

I christen this episode, "Starfleet is the New Black."

The issue is as a Trek fan and the technology, uniforms and look of the Klingons are all WRONG and there is a canon Star Trek Prime example in the Cage pilot two part episodes in TOS as in the flashback scenes with Captain Pike and the crew take place in this time period they supposedly set it in give or take a bit so they can screw the show. And I am able to watch it for free from my alternative sources and don't.

The Cage takes place two years prior to the Discovery pilot.

That proves my point on continuity of the technology it is far too advanced for the two year difference to account for. Here is my plan I loved and still do the Highlander movies and two TV series so will make believe this show never happened like I do with the Highlander second movie and that awful Highlander the Source made for TV movie were never made and keep the good out of the source material. I watched two extra episodes to be fair through free alternate means and well gave up on it the series is awful and no proper sci-fi fan of the franchise should watch it either. Its trash.

The Physics of Star Trek gave me a headache.

Still like the old show, knowing the transporter is not possible.

I watched part of the first show, missed due to the game, I am not going to watch it until it comes to my TV in an easier way.

Discovery is back! And here are the spoilers.....

I was right! Tyler is a Klingon spy. But bigger than that, they're in the Mirror Universe! This show was heavy on fan service, and exciting in it's own right. This was clearly the best episode of the season (so far).

Personally I think it is one of the better spinoffs if not the best.

I'm still hanging in there, all the networks and Hollywood are pushing the women power stuff and it gets old. I'm more interested in them discovering new worlds that type of stuff. Right now where the story is they're pushing a black woman and middle eastern male romance. (roll eyes)

Star Trek started out as social commentary so why the surprise?

That's all threw Star Trek and didn't bother me much.

The giant water bear they plug into a computer and sprinkle magic dust on to travel is dumb.

The new Klingons are dumb and unwatchable.

The ship combat is pretty dumb.

A lot of the characters are unlikable.

    It reminds me of Enterprise.

I expect a lot out of Star Trek, I'm aware it usually takes 2 years for them to lay down a good foundation of characters that'll work together. I also am aware of the old shows breaking new social boundaries (kirk and uhura kiss controversy). So I get it. I'm all for giving it a couple of years before I pass judgement. Get to the story telling is what I want though. One of my favorite Star Trek's is First Contact, great story.
