    My question was tongue-in-cheek.

I don't see how a wall will stop illegals.

Trump's "compromise" is to basically start treating Dreamers like humans . . . temporarily.

I don't. Please explain how a wall will stop illegals from coming on boats and planes.

It won't stop all of them. But it will stop most, and it will slow the rest of them down.

The goal of any defense is to make it more difficult for the people trying to gain entry. The wall is a good first line of defense. It's not a panacea.

Why do prisons have walls? Because it's a perfect first line of defense. But they also need guards, electronic surveillance, etc.

It’s going to be a shitshow when some of these individuals blow their food budget for two months in a week and then realize they have no food left till the next deposit date.

Riots, yes — there will be riots.

The obstructionist Democrats are saying that illegal aliens are more important than Americans on food stamps.

Foolish hyperbole. If they weren't already getting treated better here than they were in their home country, they wouldn't be fighting so hard to stay. When Democrats love Dreamers more than they hate Trump, the government will reopen. Let's all pray that Democrats hard hearts are softened.

The biggest potential problem with this is that aside from the elderly and the disabled, the majority of people receiving food stamps need them because of their own poor choices and lack of responsibility ---- and now we're suggesting they budget and consider a degree of austerity, which sounds perilously like "make good choices" and "be responsible". Good luck with that....

When Democrats love America more than they hate Trump, the government will be reopened.

When Democrats realize compromise is more important than obstructing Trump, the government will be reopened.

    When...........(I can keep going) :p

Please use common sense. The wall will stop, deter, or at the very least vastly slow down illegals crossing the southern border. You know, where the sections of the "wall" will be built. Nobody has claimed the wall, alone, is a 100% solution. However it is an obvious straightforward part of a good solution. Or do you think the sections of barrier currently in existence are a waste of time also? Do you think every politician who supported border barriers, going back to 1994, was wrong? Were you opposed to the Secure Fence Act of 2006?

Considering how many 'food stamps' are traded for booze, dope, and cigarettes, can we expect the dreaded "deflation" to hit those 'markets'...? :roflol:

When Democrats love Federal Workers more than they love illegals who have not even entered yet, The Government will be reopened. We pray that Democrats will come to their senses and that their minds will clear and their hard hearts will soften.

True. There is a reason they don't get a years worth of food stamps at once.

Most illegals arrive by air and sea, and the minority that arrive by land will find other ways to cross. This is what traffickers specialize in.

Up to 80 percent of the women/girls who cross the border are raped.

Seems like enough reason for the wall.

Just because we have more illegals overstaying their visas than physically crossing the border, doesn't mean we should ignore the people crossing the border.

This week there were between 300 and 400 illegals arrested crossing the border in Arizona. No one knows how many crossed the border without being caught.

We also need to hire a lot more people to catch visa overstayers.

These were the most recent numbers I could find (2016):

"Mexicans made up half of all unauthorized immigrants in 2016", according to the Pew Research Center.
    http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/11/28/5-facts-about-illegal-immigration-in-the-u-s/

"The number of unauthorized immigrants has grown since 2007 only from one birth region: Central America, from 1.5 million that year to nearly 1.9 million in 2016. This growth was fueled mainly by immigrants from the Northern Triangle nations of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras," according to the Pew Research Center.

I would wonder about the difference in economic impact from the poor illegals trying to cross the southern border on foot (more likely to end up as a strain on our welfare system via anchor babies) vs the people who can afford to enter legally with a Visa via an airplane or ship (less likely to become a strain on our welfare system, I would think, because they are almost certainly more financially well off than someone sneaking across the border on foot to escape poverty.) Even those entering illegally (without a Visa) via an airplane or boat are still probably financially ahead of those trying to sneak across the border on foot. This is just speculation though. I guess it can be hard to get concrete information about illegals, especially those who have snuck across the border and are completely unaccounted for, because I can't imagine illegals are rushing to draw attention to themselves so they can be included in surveys and statistics. I remember a Yale (or Harvard?) study a few months back which suggested the estimated numbers of illegals could be wrong by half ---- meaning twice as many here as previously estimated.

I can't find current numbers to support the argument that we have more illegals who have overstayed their Visas than crossed into the US illegally, and the older statistics I'm finding vary but seem to estimate around 40-50% are Visa overstays. Do you have any current numbers? Or is this just an unsubstantiated talking point the Democrats generated?
