    It's not the end of the world necessarily though, but it will take leadership, though good leadership.

    A leader who will listen, the most important thing. Listening to the people, individual people, groups and especially special interest groups often are biased or have their own agenda.

    If you listen to enough ordinary people you will get a consensus as the outliers (extremists) become insignificant. Whatever the ideology is, it is the will of the majority of people that has to be served.

    If I was Shorten I would promise to mail out a hundred question multiple choice questionare.

    Use it to gauge and develop policies on especially in areas like pensions, welfare, housing ,immigration, borders, republic etc.
    It would give a better guideline then listening to business or unions.

    It would also help to engage the population more in politics as they would at last be heard.
