(Or could there be some unique cultural factors in Africa that could explain this?) It seems very unusual for the prevalence of bi men to be so much more common than gay men in a population. The percentage of the population (at least in American and European countries) that is gay is estimated to be between 2.5 and 4 percent, while the percentage of bisexual men is estimated to be between 1.5 and 2 percent. However, studies have found that 80 percent of bisexual men end up in heterosexual relationships, so maybe it could be possible the real percentage of bisexual men is actually higher? (i.e. It's easier for some bisexual men to identify as normal heterosexual) It is known that men in Africa statistically tend to be less monogamous (possibly higher sex drive due to higher racial testosterone levels) so, potentially, that could drive them to seek sex outside of committed monogamous relationships, and so while his bisexual counterpart in a white country might have settled down into a relationship having sex with just one woman, he's out there having sex with his woman and other men. This is all wild speculation, of course. Or maybe they are so horny in Africa, that makes the population pool statistically less likely to discriminate by gender?

Close to 60% of men acknowledge they have had a sexual experience with another male at some point in their life and the vast majority of them identify as heterosexual. The 4%-8% of males that identify as homosexual is likely on the low end — Kinsey’s studies put homosexuality (KS6) around 10% — and the number of bisexuals (KS2 - KS5) will likely not be known until the stigma surrounding sexuality is eliminated completely.
Yes, but that just makes it all the more remarkable. Because you'd think many of those bisexual men would just choose to stick to their heterosexual side, and there would be fewer bisexual men in the statistics.
I think it's a cultural thing. Returning veterans from Iraq report that, although being homosexual is a serious crime, unmarried men may "have fun" with each other, and the practice is accepted as a cultural norm.
