https://www.seattletimes.com/nation...who-made-sex-video-shows-dilemma-for-schools/ This 16 year old teen made a sex video with one of his female classmates, using his cellphone to record the sex without her knowledge. Only the audio was recorded. Neither of them was visible on the two minutes of the sex recording. (In other words basically only the sounds from the sex were recorded) He later played the video to four of his friends. When the girl found out about it she was obviously upset, and lodged a complaint to the school. Staff at a suburban Chicago high school called 16-year-old to the dean’s office to ask him about the video audio recording, where they warned him that he could be charged and forced to register as a sex offender. They conveyed to the boy the seriousness of the matter while also telling him their goal was to keep it out of court, if he cooperated. A police officer that had been assigned to the school was also in the dean's office during the questioning. The recording was hidden on an app that looked like a calculator. When the boy opened it for the officer, it revealed photos of other partially nude girls, as well as the video. The boy explained those pictures had been sent to him by other girls, and these pictures were among the contents downloaded by Naperville police from the phone after the phone was confiscated. A few hours later, the teen walked to the top of a five-story parking deck and jumped off. The issue raises a high-stakes legal question because many child porn laws predate the phenomena of teens sharing sexual images by cellphone. And neither they nor their parents usually have any idea that doing so can trigger serious penalties, including being labeled a sex offender for life. “It’s not that big a deal until it happens to your school,” said Joshua Herman, a lawyer who represents schools across Illinois. “Then it’s a nightmare.”
A sad story with a thin silver lining--at least the school attempted to resolve the issue without getting the criminal justice system involved. We don't know all the details, but it sounds like the school resource officer involved was also a reasonable man.
Im not going to make an excuse for this kid that taped a girl without her knowledge. Generally speaking, these laws need to exempt the sending of child porn shared between the object of the media and a consentual recipient.
That might only be what the school is claiming after the fact to avoid public backlash, and in the face of a lawsuit from the parents. If they didn't want this to go to court, why did they confiscate the cellphone and give it police?
He WAS a sex offender who had child porn, enough said, his age was not to me a big factor and he faced very serious charges with no defense he was looking at prison as a sex offender for child porn so jumping to his death was likely the smart move.
OP It's just another example of the decadence which is going to finish us off. If it could happen to Rome it can to us. It's making weird changes to our kids' brains.

Truly, Big Brother is here. This sex offender business is very bad for the country. It is a perfect example of the deleterious effects of our Judeo-Christian heritage. Religious dogma and superstitious nonsense encoded into secular law. For shame.
