About 10 years ago I bought a little program called Photoshop Elements from Adobe. I wanted to move it from an old computer to a new one. Adobe requires that you deactivate it on the old computer so I started that process.

In order to deactivate it I had to log into my account. When I got to the password the site told me I needed to change my password. But in order to change my password I had to enter a code which was mailed to my email address. The problem is that the company that carried that email address went out of business years ago and the email address is just as dead.

So I looked for some support from Adobe since they created this problem. I looked for a support phone number. No such thing. I tried for a support email or chat. Neither exist. The self help on the web site has nothing related to my issue. I tried the forum but that, too requires the same login. The company has shut itself off completely from its customers, particularly those who set up an account under an email address that no longer exists.

So we are busy closing small businesses (more than 130,000 so far) while we protect companies like Adobe which has grown too large to succeed.

So I either need to throw out the software and chalk one up to experience or I need to send the software to the CEO as a gift with a letter explaining why he is receiving it. What would you do?

An account associated with my email got hacked so I changed the email account. Then I went to update my gaming clients and some required I respond to an email they sent... to my now changed em address! I tried to temporarily change it back. Could not.

I ended up doing a live chat with at least one of them. Service tickets to another. I had to do things like prove proof of purchase etc.

One issue you may run into: they may not support the SKU of that product anymore. Adobe has very different products now, as they try to follow the likes of Microsoft, switching to software as a service that you cannot buy but simply rent. Annually. Dang them.

Dang indeed. I don't rent software. it does limit my choices. I dumped the software and found another program to do what I did with the Adobe product.

They really could all find themselves getting R&R w/ free open source applications.

If it weren't for business and requirements for accounting and other business related apps, I would use Linux exclusively. As it is I only have one Linux machine. My total cost for loading it with software has been somewhere very close to $0.

I run several open source apps on Windows as it is. Firefox, Thunderbird, WPS, Filezilla are a few examples. All great apps on Windows as well as Linux.

Do you really want to go through the expense of updating your computer just to throw on some 10 year old software that is not compatible with
the new OS? It's sort of like buying a new car and throwing on bicycle tires. Just upgrade to a new product that will be 10x more productive than
the old one - there are a number of apps if don't like Adobe.

Yes I do. It serves a particular purpose for me. It is nothing like bicycle tires. It runs just fine on current Windows versions It is not obsolete. I paid for the software. I don't want to pay again. There are all kinds of options other than Adobe. I'm aware of every one of them. I have the replacement already installed. I'm abandoning Adobe, not over the software but rather on their taking it away from me without compensation. But thanks for the comments.
