Supreme Court says it will consider next term what would be a radical change in the way federal elections are conducted

The Supreme Court said it will review giving state legislatures sole authority to set the rules for contests even if their actions violated state constitutions and resulted in extreme partisan gerrymandering for congressional seats.

Supreme Court says Biden can end Trump-era ‘Remain in Mexico’ immigration policy

The Supreme Court on Thursday gave President Joe Biden the green light to end the controversial “Remain in Mexico” immigration policy that originated under the Trump administration.

Since the beginning of his administration, Biden has tried to wind down the policy, which sends certain non-Mexican citizens who entered the US back to Mexico – instead of detaining them or releasing them into the United States – while their immigration proceedings played out.

Biden’s bid to terminate the program had been challenged in court by a coalition of red states led by Texas that argued that ending it ran afoul of immigration law. They also argued that administration violated the Administrative Procedure Act – which requires that agencies take certain procedural steps when implementing policy – in how it went about unwinding the program, formally known as Migrant Protection Protocols.

The Supreme Court has lost all credibility.

The most important goal for every liberal and every moderate should be to pack the SC with 4 more liberal justices.

The only way to do that is to support Democrats. Then write your representative demanding that 4 more justices be added to ensure the extreme minority position does not rule the court for the next 20 years. What we have now is not sustainable.

    It will not be tolerated.

It's sad to see the Supreme Court become a political football. Seems both sides want to use it as an alternative to enacting legislation to get their way.

You can't enact legislation when you have a country that is divided virtually 50-50 without the filibuster. It is mathematically impossible.

The other solution is to give equal representation to all people and either radically change or eliminate the Senate. As it stands now, there is a huge bias in favor of red states, with each person in some red states having 50-70 times the representation, as each person in some blue states.

This is a joke and it has created the mess we have now. The country is held hostage by an extreme minority,

The supreme court ends up being a total joke now.

It's just being filled by people who flat out lie about their intentions to get in.
And ones in, they just insert their political religious agenda.
It has nothing to do with the law, or what the norms are of general public.

So it's just more and more like some kind of Sharia court system of clergy.

How would you feel about getting rid of the SC, given that all accountability and oversight for state laws would then be solely up to the constituents of each state and fedgov would have no legal recourse for anything they legislate?

The thing to do is undivide the country instead of lazily profiting from it.

The EU got a problem with I do believe Bulgaria and an other country (Poland?) for it's politicians taking the power to appoint and fire judges when they don't judge they way the politicians like it to be.

    And for what it's worth:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_powers#United_States
Separation of powers was first established in the United States Constitution, wherein the founders included features of many new concepts, including hard-learned historical lessons about the checks and balances of power. Similar concepts were also prominent in the state governments of the United States. As colonies of Great Britain, the founders considered that the American states had suffered an abuse of the broad power of parliamentarism and monarchy. As a remedy, the United States Constitution limits the powers of the federal government through various means—in particular, the three branches of the federal government are divided by exercising different functions. The executive and legislative powers are separated in origin by separate elections, and the judiciary is kept independent. Each branch controls the actions of others and balances its powers in some way.

Clearly the judiciary isn't independent anymore.
You get in because of your political and religious idea's, sucking up to one side of the political spectrum and lying to the other.

HOW does one unify a country that is this fractured ?? Folks and politics are rather entrenched d in their positions. It is starting to look like a three way split is more likely at some point. West, East and south.

    What is realistic now??

The SC decision re: Roe has seriously fractured a divided nation............and is not what the majority wants. It s out of step with real time and real life.

The fact that the SC has become so political........is a travesty. How can it have objectivity and credibility.

Only those who don't like the recent SC rulings believe the court has lost all credibility.

They got asked what they thought about Roe vs Wade, and based on their answer to backing that ruling up, they were appointed to be part of the SC.

They lied under oath and because of that changed a landmark ruling that has been in place for 50 years. So we're talking about judges lying under oath being given the highest judicial position, make massive changes on the thing they lied about.

So it's "a bit" more than just not agreeing.

Maybe for some.........but the fact it has become more political is the big factor.

In an ideal world........the SC should consist of independent objective thinkers.( legal scholars).........who are not influenced by religion or politics..........or other obvious biases .

Your opinion of course and anyone who doesn't like their recent rulings. Are you concerned about abortion now being an issue that is open for debate like any healthy democracy or do you prefer abortion be decided by non-elected officials and forced down the throats of folks who oppose it? Maybe you just don't believe in the democratic process?

Outreach. I would like to see the same cable news organizations that have fomented the division put together some debate and discussion programming instead of throwing barbs at each other, for instance, and more politicians on the right grow a spine and denounce Trump's lies instead of either remaining silent or repeating those lies. They're all afraid of their audiences and constituencies, afraid of losing their cushy jobs, content to do their part to ruin the country just as long as it doesn't affect them negatively.

If they did lie under oath then why aren't they being charged with a crime? After all they are all on record and Democrats control Congress and the WH.

The Supreme Court just dealt a big blow to tribal sovereignty. Tribes fear it’s only the start.

The Supreme Court’s ruling Wednesday in Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta dealt a heavy blow to the authority of tribes to govern their own lands, federal Indian law experts and tribal leaders said. Some experts fear states would usurp the hard-won autonomy of tribes to prosecute crimes in a community-based way that meets the needs of their own citizens.

"As a citizen of a tribal nation, I feel violated," one legal expert said of the court’s ruling.

If it wasn't for the dollar being the world's reserve currency we would be a third world country thanks to our huge national debt.

I am all for a "healthy debate" on challenging issues..............but that is not what is happening. How is it "democratic" to remove a long standing right??

No one was forcing folks to have an abortion...........but now folks are being forced NOT to have that choice. An abortion is a very personal matter.....and those that don't want one or have certain beliefs ....don't have to even consider it..........but should not impose their values on others. Strange that the sperm doner is not even mentioned in this whole scenario.*unwanted pregnancy)

No, they're not equally bad at this time. One party is objectively worse by far.

Sounds a little bit like they want something similar to "states' rights."

But those independent and objective thinkers would still be accused of being biased and influenced by religion and politics by those who disagree with their decisions.
