Swiss to Vote on Guaranteed $2800 Monthly Income for All Adults

It seems that the Swiss are more Christian and solicitous of their fellow citizens' health and welfare than Americans are about theirs. They will have a vote on a referendum to guarantee a monthly income of $2,800 to all of their fellow citizens. The date for that vote hasn't been set.

Next month they will vote on an imitative to limit executive pay to 12 times the pay of the company's lowest paid worker.

Is that something Americans should consider?

I'm sure the Swiss people are going to vote against these insane ideas by an overwhelming majority.

 

A generous welfare state is possible when you have a country with a mono-culture similar to an extended family or clan. It's impossible under any manner of multi-culturalism. I don't know enough about the Swiss to say one way or the other.

Limiting pay for any cohort is the death of capitalism. I suspect they are much smarter than that. Only Thom Hartmann is that stupid.

 

Are you saying that America is too racist for such a system to work here? It wasn't that long ago that whites wouldn't fund unemployment and welfare for blacks unless the blacks put up half of the amount.

When your unemployment rate is 3%, and your population is below 10 million, you might be able to afford such nonsense. I expect the good people of Switzerland to defeat this proposal handily.

What that means is that any executive of a Swiss company could not make more than $185,484 per year.

Swiss companies would lose every executive who now makes more than that, and these people would leave the country.

 

According to the links it's for each adult. Consequently a husband and wife could get a total of $67,200. I don't know if that's how it will actually work in practice.

Well, a serious overkill. It wont take long for their economy to decline if they pass that. I am all for basic income, but at a reasonable level and with strict immigration control (because generous welfare state and open borders exclude each other).

 

I'm saying that human nature is what it is. We first support our selves and families, then our clan then .... whatever. Any other ordering must be done at the point of a gun.

 

Generous welfare has nothing to do with multiculturalism and everything to do with the size of your population.

It's not tied to the lowest wage in the nation; it's tied to the lowest wage in the company. If execs want a pay raise, all they have to do is give one to their lowest paid worker, too.

uhm, what? How does that make any sense? Size of a population is not a factor, because more people means more welfare, but also more taxes, so it cancels out. Only composition of a population is important, not size.

 

It's probably easier to do when your population is only 8 million and your country has a much stricter immigration policy than the US will ever have.
