I think Tucker nailed it. A little over 7 minutes, but better than reading it if I had written it myself.

    Hoping for your feedback.

i'm not going to watch this because i'm scared that he'll correctly point out that war is bad and i can't stand watching this smug bastard actually be right about something for once

we know chemical weapons have been used.

but its a scary fact that we cannot prove 100% that the attacks were done by Syria and not by the rebels.

im not sure what to do about that

I’m no dove. But I believe that the decision to carry out war is the most profoundly critical decision that we can make. Take the 7 minutes and watch and listen, even if you don’t like the guy, and then give me your opinion - not on the speaker, but on his words.

OBL once wrote that civilians were legitimate targets if it advanced the cause (paraphrasing). We KNOW that radical jihadists prey upon and murder helpless civilians as a matter of policy. We also know that radical jihadists in the area have used chemical weapons, and chlorine gas is a crude but available substance that can be weaponized fairly easily.

Trump had just said he wanted us to get out of Syria a day or two before this attack. So who benefits if Assad is blamed and attacked by the U.S.?

Carlson, when he puts his mind to it, is capable of solid journalism. I cannot recall a single instance since the Korean war (c. 1953) where U.S. involvement in local civil wars or dust ups created any lasting positive results. But that's just because I'm old.

Yeah, this surprised me because most of the Fox News reporting and commentary is all in favor of attacking Syria, and Carlson went against the narrative, using solid history and logic.

Yep. Tucker's an a hole, but he's right on this one I think.
I can't think of any reason Assad would do this when Trumps talking of pulling out.

The one thing I would quarrel with is people saying Trump must do this. I think they are saying that because of Trumps words, not necessarily what they see in Syria.
That's the problem with making threats.

I agree. He’s kinda painted himself into a corner now with his tweets. I noticed Mattis said today that they are still “assessing the intelligence”. Interesting.

Unless authorized by congress, it would be an illegal war and an impeachable offense.

I think the rebels are the ones. A lot of them are radical Islamic jihadists, and they hate us. But they wouldn’t mind USING us.

More impeachable than the one a year ago?
Obama proved that Congress won't touch it when he ask for a new authorization for Syria. They basically told him to use Bush's. Seems that one covers anything in the Mid-East - may even cover N. Korea. :)

Yeah, I think your right. It's much simpler than some conspiracy theory like mine.

I 100 percent agree that the decision to go to war belongs to the Congress. If I were the president, and if I thought we should attack Syria, I would go to the Congress, and ask them to debate it and vote on it, and I would go with their decision either way. But in this era, Congress DOESN’T WANT this responsibility. Today’s Congress wants to leave the decision to the President so they can applaud it if it goes well or condemn it if it doesn’t.

The rebels have used chemical weapons and false flags are part of their modus operandi. This makes things very difficult.

Further complicating the issue is that these Islamist Jihadist extremist group are being armed and supported by a number of nation states - all with rather nefarious agenda's and each more than capable of getting chemical weapons to the terrorists for a false flag.

This whole mess in Syria stinks to high hell and the more one gets into the details the smellier it gets.

Besides, the Israelis are very capable of defending themselves. Syria is a broken country, and it probably won’t pose a threat to anyone for a long time to come.

How the Islamic State Seized a Chemical Weapons Stockpile
When jihadists captured a Syrian military base, they found a cache of some of the world’s most dangerous weapons buried in its bunkers...-> http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/08/17/how-the-islamic-state-seized-a-chemical-weapons-stockpile/

I think Israel really really doesn't want Iran and Russia on their doorstep. It's the problem with a failed state.

It is “smelly”. We have pretty well destroyed ISIS as a force that can possess territory. I don’t mind cleaning up the tiny pockets of territory they still occupy, but I don’t want anything to do with the Syrian civil war.

The Russians have been a part of the Syrian landscape for decades. And the Iranians are not much of a threat either. Not against a first world military like Israel has which, if necessary, is backed up by the U.S.

Would it make us safer? That depends. I happen to agree with Obama that the proliferation of chemical weapons is a game changer. Ideally, this should be the UN to respond but the UN 'military' is more watchdog, and it's not really a united force. In other words, it couldn't really take Assad's forces and probably not even the rebels.

Also, if we enable them to think they can get away with it then Russia will be allowed to use proxy states like Syria(and North Korea, allied with China) to begin posturing military and geopolitical strength across Eurasia and the Black Sea.

I feel like if we act militarily, we will be drawn into a quagmire that would also involve the Turks/Kurds, possibly resulting in a WW scenario not unlike how WWI broke out. At the same time, leaving these countries to their devices is not good either.

In the past, we postured with strength to make antagonist players either back down or they would have been crushed. Weapons systems have advanced to the point where the US is no longer so undisputed as to be able to do this. Navigating the geopolitical field means exercising a diplomatic advantage as much as a military one.

The interesting things as it relates to the tariffs is now the Chinese want to talk, after initially wanting to try and fight this with the US. If Trump can take this and make China an ally of the US, it would be a significant blow to the Russians and perhaps they'd rethink about pushing an aggressive Syria as a proxy.
