Basic commodities: Ribeye roasts, dark beers, ice cream, chocolate pudding, ammunition, vodka, good lookin' gals, lobster... all plentiful here.

The THREAT has always been there. I remember participating in a thought provoking project at TRADOC where we concluded just that. Some country, somewhere, that was deeply committed to building nukes, but was unable and uninterested in building missiles, possibly one somewhere that spoke Farsi, could place a nuke in multiple fishing trawlers, cargo ships, et al, registered in foreign nations. The arrival of these ships could be coordinated so that multiple detonations could occur in our harbors concurrently. Meanwhile, the Kharg (an Iranian helicopter tender, stationed at the time in the mid-Atlantic to assist Iranian ships to/from Cuba at the time) could bring a TEL (Transporter Erector Launcher) up on deck with a North-Korean made "SUPERSCUD" ready to go... with a nuke warhead. As our ports were being devastated, the SUPERSCUD could lay down an EMP field, dismantling our electronics in the heartland. (Missile defenses are designed to intercept incoming, not chase a hostile missile UP into the stratosphere.)

We didn't expect Pearl Harbor either.

Container ships are unloaded in 8 hours with no people involved.. If we still employed stevedores world commerce would be hopelessly crippled.

Guy operating the crane and the truck driver to take the container away are kind of essential to the process.

We still do employ stevedores. It's very well paid work, too.

    Look into it yourself, Dear.

In an aside, in my country stevedores are referred to as 'wharfies'.

I thought "wharfies" were made of sardines and marshmallows.

Maybe they are? They're an odd bunch - with a reputation as roughnecks and standover men. There could be marshmallows and sardines involved.

    Per the article.
"Part of the problem is the ships are double or triple the size of the ships we were seeing 10 or 15 years ago," Louttit told Insider. "They take longer to unload. You need more trucks, more trains, more warehouses to put the cargo."

I have also read in other articles the backlog is due to lack of methods to transport the goods which was even worse a year ago creating the backlog we have now. It will catch back up in time, concerning toys for the holiday's I was reading some executives are paying more to use air transportation for lack of trucks and that there will be a shortage of their products for the holidays this year.

-- So you can build more roads, or "unload the containers" but it means nothing if you lack methods to transport said goods to where they are going.

You are guessing right. Nor did I vote for him in '16. I've never been a fan. I usually vote Libertarian.

Who do you think works at cargo docks? No one? They operate themselves?

Yes! Boat traffic caused the inflation. You guys will make up any BS to cover up Biden’s failures

    sad!

maybe next time you can use the trajectory of the planets as inflation reason?
