Taliban expect US withdrawal, vow to restore Islamic rule

Article: Afghanistan war: What has the conflict cost the US?
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-47391821

    It's been 20 years.

Have we done any good for the people there?

Is it time to withdraw and let them get on with their business?

What type of "reaction" do you think they will have if we don't withdraw?

    What do you think?

We can piss around there until 2100 and still within a week after leaving the Taliban would take over! LET THEM HAVE IT! Every time they misbehave fly a B-52 over and flatten a target, simple and much cheaper than what's been done so far.

Yup. The US lost in Afghanistan. The big question though is whether or not they will be able to secure the concessions made in the peace treaty, specifically that of the Taliban agreeing not to work with foreign terrorist groups.

We were never there or anywhere for that matter to help anyone. We go to places to protect our interests. We were there specifically because of 9/11 and their support of Bin Laden and Alqaeda. Leaving is fine by me, as long as we always keep one eye on them and aggressively go after them if they play a part in terrorist activities against us.

With the amount of money that has so far been spent on the conflict in that area, it would have been enough to bribe all the people in that region into peace.

Afghanistan ending in this fashion was all but a forgone conclusion.
It took the soviets only one decade to realize they were fighting a war that couldn’t be won, I guess we had to one up them, and spend two decades fighting the same losing battle. The Afghanis have a saying, “ You might have the clock, but we have the time”
They proved that saying true once again.

We’ll have to wait, and see if the second saying about Afghanistan comes to fruition.

We answered for 9/11. We showed the taliban and Al Qaeda what we can do to defend ourselves. They should remember that we can always destroy them if warranted in the future. That is the win for us.

The only thing the U.S. "lost" was in trying to bring about democracy in a country that is not culturally capable of it. It was a noble secondary goal. But one cannot build a beautiful statue out of sand.

So ... They learned something about attacking us. And we learned something too.

Respect to all the young people of this country who stood up and put it all on the line to defend us all.
