That last one you could take to study (if you yourself were Christian) and learn from Washington. He did have slaves on his plantation as did most of his contemporaries, but his was a different relationship than most and e evolved from that practice toward the end of his life. Perhaps you will evolve in your "denial of God as you get toward the end of your own life. Washington was my kind of Christian. Not perfect, but resolute in his goals toward perfection.

It truly is fascinating the lengths some people will go to in order to construct themselves as 'victims'. This has become a foundation of the current version of American conservatism, along with blaming everyone else (especially certain minorities) for everything.

 

First off, the Bible does not condone slavery. It discusses slavery as the history and nature of mankind. I would point out, a good many Christians of Washington's time opposed slavery and it is due to their efforts it was outlawed. Christians are imperfect people. Unlike you, they acknowledge it and appeal to a higher standard. Your standard is no higher than the space between your ears I might add. I was never scared of death before I believed. Like you, I thought I would fall asleep and it would be over. It was "eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die". No big deal! Somehow I realized my soul was eternal. The promise of heaven was interesting. I don't fully understand it, but from what I have seen, I don't think I am equipped to understand it. From reading the Word of God, I came to understand what love is. Not the cheap version you or the world has to offer. Love makes eternity worthwhile. Personally, I never gave a damn about hell. I feel I have experienced a little bit of it here on earth and I definitely know others have experienced much much more. Jesus came to set those captives free and that is what He did. Happiness depends on what happens, but joy is something that is experienced daily by walking with God.
