Is that sort of like when Tea Party folks toss around words like socialist or Marxist?

Nope. 40% of the GOP is the Tea Party. They are not going away but they are a thorn in the side of progressive republicans.

The cancer has been dragging the GOP down since 2010.

They cynically bet that they could rally the most extreme and parochial segment of their party to deliver them a victory in Congressional mid term elections. They had just gerrymandered many key districts to help enable this outcome and multiply its effects.

The "tea party" consists of the sort of people who showed up at Sarah Palin rallies, Bush dead enders, and racists (there is a huge element of that in what is commonly called the "tea party", but it is by no means universal, particularly amongst the Rand Paul crowd). This is the lunatic fringe that Fox and Rush Limbaugh play to for profit every day.

They did not count on the tail wagging the dog.

But the tail wagged the dog all through the GOP primaries in 2011 and 2012, to the delight of cable TV news directors, talk show radio producers, and K street lobbyists and political marketing outfits. Playing to the lunatic fringe is easy, fun and very profitable.

So it was that we were treated to Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain, a brief cameo by Donald Trump, hints by Caribou Barbie, and race baiting from Newt Gingrich.

The result? Utter, and ignominious defeat in 2012.

Ted Cruz, and ambitions, politically radical freshman Senator from Texas, has just led the GOP to its most humiliating defeat in Congress in nearly as long as I can remember.

Yet, the lunatics who buy his shallow and self serving rhetoric love him all the more for it.

The shutdown/default drama was doomed from the very start, and it played itself out entirely within the GOP, which is split irreparably now.

Ted Cruz, like Limbaugh, Fox and the rest, used the crisis to build his own name recognition and to raise money. The US was hostage to his ambition.

Right wing extremism is alive and well in the US, whether you call it the "tea party" or not.

It is the voice of the angry white man, and it is fading angrily and slowly into history.

For the time being, it will take the GOP with it.

Except somehow, I share many fundamental beliefs with the Tea Party, and I am not racist. Sounds to me like there is a general movement to paint the Tea Party as racist. I disagree with marginalizing an entire political group on unfounded claims.

It is another of the proxy words libs use to either start or end a discussion. They use it to represent what they think is an evil conspiracy so try to paint it all as evil. The real evil is their absolute ignorance of what is going on and their total intolerance of opposing viewpoints.

Pb (that's 'lead' in the Periodic Table) is right. Boy, did that hurt to say that!!

Those who oppose Obamacare (I am one of them) are wasting their time and valid arguments against by slamming the poor roll out of the website (altho deserving) as s/w and architectural restructuring will fix the many problems over time....this alone does not invalidate the integrity of Obamacare.

Just 'some' of the realities of what will show Obamacare as being a money-sucking, economy destroying, reduced quality & availability of Health Care monster are:

    1) The large increase of pre-existing conditions that will crush the system both in staffing demands and huge costs. The death panels will give some relief, however.

    2) The base funding to be provided by the youth will not occur and financing for the increased HC costs will jump, furthering our national debt and reaching the point of 'no return' at a faster pace.

    3) Doctors & nurses will have to take pay cuts from reduced Medicare/Medicaid allowances which will inhibit new entry's into the HC business and a shortage of HC professionals in the near future as well as early retirements of today's .

The increased demand and huge increase in cost to the economy are summed up here:

    http://www.coburn.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?a=Files.Serve&File_id=4d81849a-33fa-40c0-a995-e7f17b1d8a47

Altho cheap-shotting the $500M poor roll out of Obamacare, which is just a symptom of Govt waste and incompetence, is somewhat appropriate, the real failure of Obamacare in lowering the cost of quality HC will be made evident in 2014, and the mid-term elections will speak to it!
Cruz, the shut down, etc supposed 'negatives' will be forgotten, or shown to be as heroic attempts and used as reminders by the GOP & the many TEA Parties, along with the faster increasing national debt (about $18-19T by then) as a result of Obamacare being an albatross around American's necks....

The most recent reports suggest, now, however incredible this may seem is that the Obamacare roll out fiasco was MASKED by the "traitorious" shut down and no one noticed.

Oops. If no one noticed how come the reports won't go away, growing every day and new horrors flooding in where the system has allowed people to sign up for four and five programs at once, give themselves discounts they don't deserve etc. etc. etc.

What I believe we are seeing is a return to hard core American values after five long years of economic and political strife. I make a lot of jokes about Americans but one thing is true of the nation; they don't roll over easy. I know, I've played hockey on both sides and I will take on the Russians, any European team before you Yanks. And so now, a sector, not necessarily as extreme right as even the establishment Republicans would like to think, are reeling with five years of recovery that wasn't and isn't recovery, five years of financial games because the Democrats won't pass a budget, five years of expanding war and continued blunders on the international scene, and five years of the only alternative being little different than Obama in McCain and Romney.

Here's what Obama lemmings won't do and why they hate him so much...they won't listen to his full speeches. He opens with far right rhetoric, he slams hecklers to the turf like Stone Cold Steve Austin leaving them bleeding embarrassment...but then he starts talking about values and so forth, things that the US left sees as RIGHT WING attacks on feminism, but to me are echoing a lot of what Canada is telling its government; we demand fiscal responsibility, no more elite un-civil servants, and allow us our values. Here, "family values" is leftist ideology, and damn, this guy is sounding a lot like that.

The name-calling slandering Democrats love to find one guy with a Confederate flag or a bigot with his own ampd mic so as to discredit a whole multi-thousand Vet march, unless they can find some leftist activists to pay off and infiltrate TEA party rallies et al w/Nazi flags etc. as they have done in the past.

Remember, their mantra is "Their ends justifies their means," including lying, thuggery, slander, such as their leaders: Nancy 'the wicked witch of the west' Pelosi whose MO is that of a 'hair-brained, teenage social media girl bully,' and Harry 'the crotchety undertaker' Reid who Hitler would have loved to have as a henchman in his regime.

And Hannity will continue to trot those people out as well, and some of it might be true. There WILL be adjustments around the margins. Those people with barely livable wages will know there's nothing in it for them to be yakking it up against the ACA.

It's funny to me how the Tea Party might suddenly be depending on those who use emergency rooms as free clinics to advance their position on this.

Maybe not, but I never hear Tea Party folks try to rebuke the racism within their ranks. Seems they don't mind too much.

If there are 48 million uninsured, how many people each week must sign up for 0bamacare, to avoid being punished for not meeting the Jan 1, 2014 personal mandate deadline? It's been three weeks already and we have about 50,000 or so signed up, but the HHS refuses to give us actual numbers.

It's not a market based system, the insurance policies are being written by the HHS. Anyone not purchasing government approved insurance will now be punished. How is it market based if some people are getting hundreds of dollars a week in new health care subsidies?

This employer mandate has been delayed by 0bama, he instructed the IRS to ignore that entire section of the law.

What, Pelosi and Reid are not trotting out poor individuals betrayed by Obama and the ACA??? I never would've expected that.

So now you are concerned about the future of the GOP? This is like when the dems told the GOP that to win elections they need to pass their amnesty bill.

The Tea Party wants to reduce the debt, and balance the budget, oh my what a cancer that would be.

If 0bamacare were a program belonging to only the Republican party under Booosh, all the liberal media outlets, and the democrats in the Congress would have a 24/7 parade of victims. But since it's the Democratic Party's boondoggle, we hear crickets.
