In one of the creepiest yet most revealing Twitter threads ever to be posted on the platform, a teacher recently fretted out loud that virtual classes might allow parents to hear him brainwashing their kids. Matthew R. Kay, an educator and author of a book on “how to lead meaningful race conversations in the classroom,” worried that “conservative parents” would be able to interfere with the “messy work” of indoctrinating children into critical race theory, gender theory, and other left-wing dogmas.

I saw this, and to me the most disturbing line was "If we are engaged in the messy work of destabilizing a kid’s racism or homophobia or transphobia ..."

Who the **** are teachers to think it's their job to teach morality to other people's kids? If their parents have taught them that, for example, homosexuality is a sin, where did teachers ever get the idea that they have a role to "destabilize" that?

I agree that teachers shouldn't "destabilize" childrens' beliefs.
A teacher's job is to provide children with facts so they can form their own opinions.

I completely agree. Teachers can teach facts on race and homosexuality can be taught without putting spins on it. Question though...do you think parents who discuss race and homosexuality with their children are discussing 'facts' or their own views?

I think everyone has their personal bias, be it teachers, parents...

My son has reached an age now where he realizes that some people have a different skin color, or different facial features and he is starting to ask questions. So I tell him those differences are merely superficial and all people are born equal. I act according to my own bias, if you will.

When he gets old enough for school and some teacher or other authority figure tries to tell him otherwise, I expect them to back up their opinion with facts and I will challenge them if I hear something I don't like.

Both are pushing their own views, but parents are the ones having to pay for it. Perhaps teachers pushing their own views should let the kids live in their basement until age 45!

Yes wow, these teachers need to go, they are creating a very unhealthy environment for the children...

I went to public schools for twelve years. I was educated. These teachers aren't teaching. They're indoctrinating. And this teacher is pretty much a confessing to essentially abusing children and their Parents trust.

Do we have any of these sorts of issues with teachers in Australia? I don't have kids, so I don't know anything about schools. I didn't hear this kind of political crap in school, but I graduated in 2005.

Telling someone something that turns out to be wrong isn't abuse. I would wholeheartedly support teachers trying to correct parents that are misleading their children. But unless we're to start transferring custody of our kids to the state (another civil war lead-in for those from that thread), parents have the final say, as they're the ones responsible for the children.

As far as discipline and care go, those start to become human rights issues. Starving or beating children are essentially human rights violations.

I have frowned on some of the coursework, (UN globalist related, global warming, drug & sexual studies etc) & there are teachers even in primary who have very aggressively pushed their views in the classroom, more recent example a teacher who were very aggressively feminist and would insist on political correctness to the extreme.

I don't particularly like it but encourage my children to express their own opinions & views, therefore they are probably more likely to rebel against someone who try to tell them how and what to think. If they start to display extreme opinions/behaviour one way or another I would probably be more concerned... but I can see how it would be a problem for children who are looking for role models and are easy to influence at such a vulnerable age.

There were a period where I had arguments with my son on some issues, this stopped when we both agreed that the most important part is the ability to express said opinion. I don't think I always handled it very well...but you've got to accept that you are going to make mistakes.

Yeah, I meant ACTUAL abuse. I was just checking that your argument - "not your kids = none of your business" - wasn't absolute.

What do you mean by "misleading?" Some teachers would consider it misleading to raise a child in a religion.

If you have the ability to do so, homeschool.

Yeah, Matt Walsh (guy in the video and author or the article) is a strong advocate of homeschooling and homeschools his kids. And if I had kids and lived in the US, I would too!

I mean I think its ok for teachers and parents to discuss it. As long as the teacher respects the parents ultimate decision.
