I would rather crazy people have access to guns and have sane people responsible for their own safety than give the government power to decide who can and cannot own firearms.

I trust my ability to defend myself over the government's ability to decide who can and cannot own firearms, nor do I trust their ability to keep my family safe. I am more proficient with firearms and tactical shooting than most cops anyway.

 

The vast majority of shootings happen in "Gun Free Zones" which means by law citizens aren't allowed to be armed.

Do you understand now why "Gun Free Zones" do not work?

1. Law abiding citizens abide by the laws and will not bring their guns to a "Gun Free Zone"
2. Criminals don't give a crap about laws and will break every law to achieve their goal.

I am a gun and ballistics geek, I asked an officer about his weapon and shooting in general once. Dude had zero clue. I have heard if they fail pistol qualification, they just keep taking the test until they pass.

 

Yeah, I helped train up a bunch of MP's on small unit tactics and MOUT operations who were cops in the civilian world before our infantry unit deployed with them attached to us. I was not impressed at all. Some were ok, but overall they were pretty garbage. Nothing against them, but they are better at handling domestic disputes than an active shooter situation. I'm sure SWAT guys are a bit better, but I trust myself more.

What this thread has proven is there is a cohort of people who firmly believe that gun owner = innocent blameless superhero prepared to ward off all evil doers

It is also very interesting that no one addressed the point of whether they would change their opinion if the character in question was a different religion

 

I noticed the same in the thread titled "Pennsylvania man found with assault weapons". It is guaranteed that their opinion would change if the "victim" was an illegal immigrant, a Muslim or a "thug"

 

People are not killing each other here at a higher rate than in the US using inanimate objects as they are so hard to get unlike in the US. There are reasons why our total murder rate is so much lower than in the US and it is nothing to do with "brown foreigners" as we have a higher proportion of those than you do
