    At least six people have been killed in attacks by gunmen on Israeli vehicles near the border with Egypt's Sinai desert, raising concerns in Israel over heightened militant activity along the porous border.

    "It was a grave terrorist incident that took place in several locations," Israeli defence minister Ehud Barak said in a statement.

    "It reflects the weakening of Egypt's hold in the Sinai and the broadening of activities by terror elements."

    Mr Barak called the Gaza Strip, territory controlled by Hamas Islamists and bordering the Sinai and Israel, "the source of terrorist activities".

    "We will act against them with full force and determination," he said.

    Israel's military said the incident began when "terrorists shot at a bus on its way to [the city of] Eilat and then fired an anti-tank rocket at another vehicle. At the same time, a military patrol hit an explosive device".

    The Magen David Adom ambulance service says six people have been killed, not including the gunmen, while the military puts the number of wounded at about 25.

    The military say between two and four gunmen have been killed.

    The driver of the attacked bus says he kept driving during the shooting.

    "I saw two men in fatigues shooting at me," bus driver Benny Bilbaski told Israel Radio.

    "I saw that there were wounded on the bus but I continued to drive on, looking straight, not looking right or left.

    "Once I got a kilometre past the area and I was out of range we took care of the wounded."

    Israeli special forces were called in and engaged the gunmen as police and military closed roads around Eilat, a popular Red Sea resort.

    Israeli officials have voiced concern that militant groups in the Sinai have been making use of a security vacuum left by the overthrow of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in February.

    "Our initial assumption is that a terrorist squad has infiltrated to Israel and caused this multiple attack," said Lieutentant-Colonel Avital Leibowitz, an Israeli military spokeswoman.

    ' Terrorist ' attack ? The filthy IOF can bomb civilians in Gaza but that's not a terrorist attack. :mrgreen: According to the Israel press it was a Zionist military convoy which was attacked and the ' civilians ' attacked afterwards were two of the Zionist High Command war criminals;

    It's a pity that they missed these two brutal criminal bastards. Good try. Better luck in future.

    And let's NOT forget this week's Israeli war crimes;

    ' Terrorist ' attack ? Larf. :mrgreen:

    And now, as a reprisal and as a collective punishment for Palestinians, the terrorist IOF have bombed Gaza in order to punish resistance with convenient murder.

    MrRelevant is leaving out the fact that 5 of the 6 dead were Israeli soldiers and the dead civilian was a bus driver driving a bus filled mainly with Israeli soldiers. Just how is that translated as a vicious attack on a civilian target? The other attacks were also on military and/or police targets (the first responders targeted were NOT ambulances and/or paramedics.)

    The Palestinians carry out enough genuine terrorist attacks (firing off rockets in the general direction of Israeli civilians, the occasional suicide bomb) that the supporters of Israel don't have to distort the facts when the Palestinians carry out a military action rather than a terrorist action.

    Israel should react with force, if we learned one thing it is that Arabs only respect strength ( and pedo prophets but those are scarce)

    The Zionists don't need any excuses in order to do that. It's a weekly occurrence.

    Peace between the Israelis and Palestinians isn't possible. Their competing nationalisms are irreconcilable.

    I disagree, the precondition for peace throughout history has been justice for the wronged. The aim of the Israeli's is to create a wilderness and then call it peace...Is that what you want?

    Fence-squatters generally don't know what they want. Their pious posturing is a substitute for study and commitment.

    Throughout history?

    I can think of oh maybe 1,000 peace treaties that were dictated by the winners that had lots of justice for them, not so much for the losers.

    Full scale war is the only option, Hamas wants to be treated as the representatives of the Palestinians in a democratic way, there is not only things they may demand, but also a huge responsibility. attacking Israel is a act of war.

    You mentioned treaties not me. Treaties in and of themselves are not necessarily a barometer but reflect the aspirations of the "winners". The pre-condition for peace is justice..That is just a fact. Perhaps your notion of "peace" is the creation of a Palestinian wilderness too because that is certainly the objective of the illegal occupiers who you are an apologist for.

    the winners allowed the Palestinians to stay, which was far more generous they what they would have received if they lost.

    Defend-able borders are not a huge thing to ask after losing a war the Arab World started ( many times over)

    If Cross border attacks continue and terrorists fleeing safely back, into Egypt after causing meyhem, increase from the Sinai then Israel will need to act (Again) .
