Yes that corporate welfare the left rales about.

    https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/11/02/tesla_share_price_drop_tax_break/
"Tesla's share price took a dive Thursday morning as Republicans in Congress revealed they were planning to kill off a US federal tax credit for electric vehicles.

The proposed House tax bill calls for an immediate repeal of the $7,500-per-vehicle credit: something that would have an immediate knock-on impact for Tesla given that it only produces electric cars."

Yes stand on your own in the marketplace. Time for Elan Musk to stop enriching himself off thr taxpayer dollars.

Old news, price up 2% today.

You do know that every other major car manufacturer also benefits from the program, don't you?

Telsa will have no problems with the subsidy going away.

Of course they would have issues. That's just silly to say they will not be negatively affected from a removed privilege.

Tesla's owner's favorite care is a gas guzzler, I believe. I guess he doesn't believe in his own invention or the truth about the climate? Maybe he's just a great businessman with money to invest in order to make some off the government? You don't believe, for a minute, he doesn't get money from the fed gov to build these cars, do you?

    Good.

    I love EV's.

But I despise that lower/middle class taxes have to help make up for the tax breaks that rich people get for buying luxury Tesla's.

Surviving on taxpayer subsidy. It's a free market they should stand on their own. You Brits want to send them your money feel free.

So you have no clue how big or what tesla does. typical. its ain't surviving on a taxpayer subsidy. And the subsidy was never permanent, that was totally understood. You do know exactly what the intent of those subsidies was, don't you?

I'm canadian. We think its a good idea to invest our money in them and all kinds of other applied renewable energy technologies within our nation.

It probably doesn't matter to Elon Musk because he has probably offloaded a significant portion of his shares and will still be rich even if Tesla crashes and burns.

It is logical for the government to help fund new technologies. This is why the Chinese are going to kick our butts in solar technology. They are funding the cost of innovation for the long-term payoff. This is also how the internet came to be, compliments of Al Gore, who drove the "information superhighway", which was attacked by narrow-minded, short-sighted righties as foolish. Now those same fools attack him when he takes his rightful credit.

I'm not a big fan of electric cars. Batteries produce toxic waste and are dangerous. They require exotic materials, some of which come mainly from China. Additionally, alternative fuels compatible with existing engines are almost competitive at the pump and stand on their own - in particular fuels derived from algae. But the idea that the government should not help to spawn new technologies and new industries is self defeating. Innovation needs to be driven and guided, not left to random whims of the market. The market deals with existing technology. New technology requires investment with no immediate hope of returns.

Were it not for government money, no nuclear power plants could be built. They require government money because the cost is too high and the ROI too long. Also, they have never delivered what was promised. Beyond that, the cost of clean up was never factored in. Now we are left with huge toxic waste sites at the taxpayers expense.

Why is it that righties never care about this when it comes to nuclear power, but they get their britches up their hineys about green power?

And were it not for government investment, nuclear power wouldn't exist.

There should not be a tax incentive to buy a private product. The product should stand on its own merits.

Was just thinking that myself. The right has an inherent aversion to what is better and healthier for the environment. It's ****ing weird.

They are irrationally driven by whatever they see as anti-left. "Green" was labeled liberal and the rest is history.

    Education is branded as liberal
    Compassion is branded as liberal
    Science is branded as liberal
    Equality is branded as liberal
Now, even defending the Constitution is being branded as liberal.

Gee, I wonder why I prefer liberals? It's a freaking mystery.

Government funding R&D into new technologies is great. Government funding companies that use tax payer dollars to show a profit on technologies that are not competitive in the free market, not so great.

It's the left pushing nuclear power these days because of it's "low carbon footprint".

Not only that, but Tesla has been cashing in on California's anti jobs efforts via selling environmental credits to other automakers who want to sell vehicles in California.
