China has stepped in to stop Trump's warmongering in its tracks.

They say they will defend North Korean but ONLY if Trump attacks first without any provication, such as a near-attack on Guam or some other very provocative action.

Trump does NOT want war with China, as they could kill tens of millions of Americans and attack NATO bases worldwide.

Hopefully this will make Trump calm down and think VERY hard about starting a war of aggression against NK.

I believe in self defense. But if NK doesn't fire missiles at us, and aren't preparing to attack us, then we cannot claim self-defense.

This is good news indeed. China want's to protect it's $462 billion a year export to the US income and paves the way for ground action if necessary.

So did China mention just how they imagine they''ll defend NK? Do they plan to intercept US war planes, or engage the US navy? Xi Ping couldn't rattle Kim, he certainly doesn't rattle Trump.

    Trump's warmongering???

We have a mad man in North Korea threatening to nuke the USA, our allies, and Guam, what kind of tender snowflake response do you want to hear from our president.

Kim is essentially pointing a loaded gun at the head of your parents, siblings, children or spouse, and threatening to pull the trigger and kill them. I'd call that provocative talk of the highest order.

Ron, North Korea's nuclear program is going to end.

I don't believe NK will end it because of sanctions. So that leaves China or the US to end it. Russia won't. Russia is too weak. It will be China or the US.

If China won't do it, the US will.

Done deal, Ron. It's just a matter of time now.

Naturally, Trump followed his original threat with another threat when Kim called his bluff. Then Trump threatened Kim again today, but he finally wised up and said Kim must do something overt to earn American wrath.

"This man will not get away with what he is doing," Trump told reporters. "If he utters one threat in the form of an overt threat ... or if he does anything with respect to Guam, or any place else that is an American territory or an America ally, he will truly regret it and he will regret it fast." That got everyone confused by what he meant. One can "utter" a threat. One cannot "utter" an overt act. Besides, "overt threat" is an oxymoron. Trump needs to look up "overt" in his Funk & Wagnalls.

But I digress. What does all this war-like bluster mean? Why is Trump acting more like a North Korean warlord than the President of the United States? He is playing the odds. He is gambling with millions of lives that he is right, and everyone else is wrong. To be perfectly honest, notwithstanding the enormous stakes, it is a pretty good bet.

Ignoring Kim for the moment -- he is just a North Korean Trump -- North Korea's generals are not suicidal. For decades North Korea has come very close to the line, but she never steps over the line, not in 67 years. After she approaches the line, she steps back and the whole process begins all over again. That is what Trump is banking on.

Imagine this very likely scenario. North Korea does not launch at Guam. Most likely, because they can't. Their missiles do not have the accuracy required. Instead they turn off the rhetoric for a while. That's what happened in May. That's what has happened every time for decades.

What will happen then? Seemingly, for the first time in the 200 plus days of his Presidency, Trump wins. He will proclaim 24/7 that he was right all along and that he forced Kim to withdraw. Everyone, including me, who condemned him for his crude rhetoric will look like a fool. The fools would include nearly the entire media, a thought that delights Trump. No war. The world is at peace. Who is responsible for the world's peace? None other than Donald J. Trump.

It's even a nice scenario. No one wants war with North Korea. As Mattis said, that would be catastrophic.

There is just one problem. No American President has ever spoken to North Korea like this before. No American President has ever "overtly" threatened North Korea with a preemptive war, promising "fire and fury" and that "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded."

Who does Kim and his generals believe, the American President who is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces or the diplomats? Ask yourself who you would believe if you were Kim, the American military commander or the diplomats?

World peace hinges on that answer because if Kim and his generals believe the military commander will launch a preemptive strike, they might consider their only chance at respect is to attack first. There is even the possibility the American commander might call off the preemptive strike, the cost being too high. Kim doesn't have the same respect for life that Americans do.

North Korean artillery and rocketry is locked and loaded, too. Target: Seoul and 25 million people along with 28,500 American troops. Trump loses.

    And so does everyone else.

N.Korea wants feel relevant. It's even possible that if they feel they are accepted as a nuclear power, they might even join the so called civilized world to some degree.

In the meantime on the other side of the world from N. Korea...we have the misfortune to have a blowhard who is so inept that he makes matters worse.

What Clinton did in the ME has nothing to do with the North Korea situation.

Kim threatened to nuke Australia too. Would you like to wait for that to happen before you come out from under the covers?

didn't you know? according to the drones this is the worst nation on earth. we are the most diverse nation on earth, where even those living below the "poverty line" seem to be able to afford television sets, computers, smart phones and their own personal transportation. these folks can afford to eat out from time to time, to have several changes of clothing that aren't strictly utilitarian, smoke, drink alcohol and any number of other things that are, in reality, luxuries, but still the drones consider us to be abusing these poor wretches. the nation's success makes it despicable in their eyes and any continuation of that success is an abomination.

This is probably what Trump was hoping for. This puts pressure on China to take care of their mess because they don't want a war with us, either.

At the end of the day, NK is responsible for sabre rattling, and now it's China that is going to put a stop to that.

Dems expect the same response that got us to THIS point. This EXACT point. Hey LIBS. Hey DEMS?? How's that diplomacy working out. Your diplomacy has allowed a mad man the ability to nuke people.

Curious. If NK starts threatening/bribing everyone that they'll launch if the world doesn't start paying them billions, what do we do? Because what's stopping them? Sanctions? Either everyone calls their bluff, and sacrifices whoever they decide to aim at we all have to take them out. Not wait for US to take them out. EVERYONE has to take them out, because EVERYONE is responsible, because EVERYONE sat back and did nothing....but talk...for decades.

The sad part is, all the bribing might just go on behind closed doors and our tax dollars will be feeding that psycho and we'll never know, because it'll be buried in pork. Our budget isn't exactly efficient and those keeping track barely know where it even goes.

A NK sympathizer? Any idea of the atrocities that have occured, and continue to occur, north of the DMZ? The S Koreans don't maintain 24hr combat readiness along their border with N Korea for fun. Trump didn't divide Korea, and isolate the hermit kingdom for 60 yrs. Kim will never be accepted into the global community.

Actually, the USA did divide the korean peninsula. The Japanese annexed Korea during ww2 and when they surrendered, the peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel between America to the south and Russia to the north. Governments were formed and neither recognized the legitimacy of the other. They went to war, which quickly turned into a proxy war between the USA in the south and Russia and China to the north.

Throughout all of this, Koreans have been wronged because they were victims of Japanese imperialism at first, then divided up because of an ideological war between communists and capitalists.
