Today is Anzac Day and I thought I'd start a thread to honour our brave soldiers. If you see one today, do me a favour and shake his hand. Lest we forget.
Hear hear. I was just reading about Catherine Deveny and her tasteless spiel. She is an embarrassing woman and not as funny or insightful as she thinks.
There are always shock troopers out to get their 15 minutes by degrading the day. Last year it was Yasmin Abdul Magid, this year its this clown. Best to ignore such people. They are not worth the oxygen.
Hmmm, it is important not to forget, and Anzac Day belongs to those who didn't return. It should be a sad day, as those diggers lost the most precious thing, their life. They lost it for our freedom. But different people have different opinions, and although I think that Yasmin Magid chose the wrong day for her comments last year, I think she was right of what she said. We have Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, but we never talk about very questionable events, such as the Iraq War, or other questionable events in our post WW2 past. Even to this day, most people think we weren't in the wrong, talking Iraq. There are even people on this forum, who deny any wrong doing at all. This to me is also very sad....... Reg.
Just remember that those who went to war and gave their lives did so, so that people could enjoy their freedom, and that includes freedom of speech. I do not prescribe to the opinions of Deveney or Magid, but I will defend their right to voice them however unsavoury I find them. This nation has been a beacon for social freedom in a world that doesn’t always live up to that expectation. In recent years we are seeing a bigger threat than even past wars to our civil freedoms. A threat that won’t be beaten by the tip of a bayonette. Politically correct politics is far more dangerous than either German or Jap. We don’t always like what we hear, we don’t always agree with others opinions, but we all must defend their right to say them, because the next person or group to be silenced may well be you and yours.
