It was actually a woman physicist who was responsible for the discovery of splitting the atom but she never got the credit or the Nobel prize.

Men weren't preferred over women because women weren't allowed to compete. ..they just owned it all! how do you suggest leveling the playing field of hundreds of years of oppression and male networking?

Here is a true thing about men vs women.

Men will buy a woman flowers and she will smell them, love them and accept them. Do women think to buy men flowers expecting the men to smell them, love them and accept them?

A baby is in the room. Who picks up the baby to cuddle it?

Yes, women have had trouble in some fields. But they also showed no interest in studying such fields. A lot of women want the baby to cuddle.

Not always, some women might think they're trying to be bought, may not like flowers, may not like obligatory and quite trite gifts.
I never understood why women seemed to like getting the proverbial, trite , boring bouquet of roses on Valentine's Day because the man in their life figured he had to......that's not a gift.

No, why should they? Are men feeling left out because they don't get flowers?

Anyone who wants to cuddle a baby, some women don't.

Yes, men have trouble in some fields. But they also showed no interest in studying such fields.

A lot of women want great, interesting, challenging, good paying jobs....

...I like your OP and then you disappoint me. What has any of that got to do with women inventors?

This is called socialization. Children are taught from very early on that males should not do what females do what they will be made fun of.Girls are encouraged to so Boy things and boys are discouraged From doing girls things. These are unknowledged prejudices

I have had two surgeries that were major. First one the Surgeon is female. She did fine. She saved my life. Next was by a black Surgeon and he too saved my life. Most of my doctors have been men. I did not pick doctors due to sexuality.

My youngest daughter is in a university nursing program. She never told me that she has been held back. She ought to have entered the university out of high school. She decided a better idea was to get married and have a son. She got divorced. She then went to the university of Hawaii where she still is a student.

My oldest daughter holds a degree. She went right after high school. She also got married and she has two sons. She has never said anybody held her back. Maybe you need to know more women.

Most doctors are men because Most are from the time when women weren’t encouraged to go to men schools. Now when you see young doctors there are just as many women as there are men

    Why do women need encouragement?

I encouraged my oldest daughter to get a degree in business. She chose administration of Justice. She remains a wife at home with a son at home and one in the university. He is pursuing a degree in computers and claimed in high school to be devoted to space engineering. I don't think he was encouraged to leave space engineering since we talked this over.

My youngest was aimed at being an educator but is now aiming to be a Nurse. I think she may have been encouraged by her brothers wife who happens to be a nurse. She is fluent in 3 languages and has the breadth of science and math courses from her AP honors program from over a decade ago.

At least they could afford it and the money went to help women all over the world. She could have opened a university that was a fraud

Women in the past were discouraged from science. In the old days girls took cooking and sewing and boys took mechanical courses etc. Now girls and boys are encouraged to be whatever they choose....doesn’t mean they can be :)
When I was young My brother was encouraged to be a doctor and I was encouraged to marry one. Times are different and it just didn’t happen in a vacuum

Holy cow, so to taunt me, you bring up Trump U.

So what about Trump U. My take on it is that the public paying for the course expected get rich schemes be taught to them. When they learned it is hard, not easy to get rich, they sued Trump. Trump did not teach. He has far too many enterprises to teach.

That some sued Trump U and collected in no way implies most of the students sued nor got funds reimbursed. This world is full of fast buck artists and since it was not Trump teaching, it was not him.

I am a product of public schools from 1944 to 1952 and recall girls being able to get grades for home making courses. I also had girls in my science and math courses. I do not recall them being discouraged. A math teacher teaching me was a woman. She was long of tooth so she did not start out late in life, she seems to have studied math from her youth days. I judge those were in the 1920's or before.

My two daughters never told me they were discouraged. Linda graduated from the university of CA around 1984 and not once did she say people discouraged her. Jamie is today in the university of Hawaii and she never said people discouraged her. I think you must meet more people.

Girls in those days had to take basic science and math. Yes they were able to get grades but that really get you far in college taking a class in sewing. Do you think it is just a coincidence or suddenly girls woke up one day and decided they liked science and now have the medical schools are half female?
Of course your daughter didn’t feel discouraged and it’s because of women my age who fought for girls educations....Your daughters are lucky because they take for granted what my generation and your generation of females could not. Y daughter was encouraged to be anything she was capable of. Most women in my day were teachers, nurses and office workers...or get a husband! If you went to school in the 40s and 50s you have to be aware that girls did not have the options that boys head and pretending that they did make you sound dishonest to me
Trump was so right...the uneducated would defend him if he shot someone on fifth avenue, ..his college was a fraud and he knew that. Where the hell does the buck stop with you?

Bet her brother wouldn’t be a nurse...I address women’s groups and I tell them I am happy that they have the options like your daughter has ....but there’s a little piece of me that wants a thank you note .:)

Her brother is a wealthy developer at Kauai. His nurse wife lives with no economic fear. And more, he is only 42.

In 1952, here in my part of CA, we all took general science. I think if you wanted to be a scientist or clown or a cook, we all took it. I of course took college prep. This entailed the full compliment of both math but science courses, A to Z. I entered College studying Physics and Calculus, no beginner courses for me.

Girls in high school were in my classes. I never saw girls as dumb in high school only suited to cook, bake and sew. My kids are naturally curious so don't hit your back too hard when taking credit for my girls successes. Even I do not try to hog credit from them both.

Now you delivered even more taunts. I never have taunted you.

Now I am not educated and a foil for Trump.

    That beats all..

Where the Buck stopped on Trump U was in a court of law.

And I think most students never sued the school. A few malcontents are at all schools.
