You're covering a lot of material here that needs its own thread. Multiple opponents are a controversial issue. I'm a big fan on single taps for them then repeat till down. Do you shoot the biggest threat or do you do the closest one? Double taps in such a situation slows up response times.

The closest one is going to be the biggest threat with multiple threats.

However if there are multiple threats close by then you have already failed the necessity of situational awareness. Unless they are all wearing 3 piece suits in church there is no excuse for them getting close to you in the first place.

If I spot multiple threats I am going to spot my exit and head straight for it, then maybe turn around an evaluate them when I am far away enough to escape. If they then go postal on me I will either continue my exit and then call it in, or I will take out the closest one if I cannot exit.

Every time I enter a place, I first scan for threats and then I also scan for exits.

If it looks like there are threats then I am going to exit right away. I need to protect my gun.

If there are no threats then I am going to note where the exits are and where cover is in case a threat or threats enter.

I do this every time I go to the bank, to a convenience store, to a bar, or while walking down the street to the mass transit, and on the mass transit.

You don't really know which one represents the biggest threat. Also shizer happens. Sometimes situational awareness goes out the door. There's simply no training scenario that covers everything. Case in point, is that while you can find specialized training for home or vehicle defense, there's nothing out there for the runner or jogger.

For running/jogging I avoid jogging trails.

I like steep hills next to high trafficked roads because the steeper the better workout my heart gets on the way up.

If there were a rustic jogging trail that I could not resist going down, I would just wear my full sized 45ACP in its shoulder holster under a lite jacket.

The general rule for multiple threats is to quickly take cover and then draw.

Take out the nearest one who comes after you, or else the nearest one that you have a clean shot at.

The key words are nearest one.

Then try to get his gun from him, rack it, test fire it, and then use it yourself.

If he has extra mags on him take those too.

But that's you and not most people. For instance, there's really no perfect way to holster/store a weapon while running. You've got protect it from sweat, it's got to be secure enough so you won't jostle it and you have to have access. A chest rig designed for running is about as ideal as you can get but it's not a fashion statement and is a bit bulky.

I modified my shoulder holster so that it connects to my waist belt for stability with paracord.

By wearing a waist belt I can therefore stabilize my shoulder holster for jogging/running.

I have a couple of point of disagreement. You speak of drawing and shooting faster than your opponent. While being fast AND accurate is important, tactical movement is more important; or as they say these days: "Getting off the X". Force your opponent to react to you, or described as: "Get inside his OODA loop". OODA, of course, is the abbreviation for "Observe, Orient, Decide, Act" that outlines human reaction time.

Your statement about facing two opponents and double tapping the first before transitioning to the second: NOT a good idea. It is better to put one bullet into each bad guy FIRST, so each has his capacity to inflict violence on you affected. Putting two rounds on one guy while there is another guy standing there is a good way to get shot by Bad Guy #2. It can be translated as: "Shoot Bad Guy 1 once, shoot Bad Guy 2 with a Hammer (fast double-tap), then transition back to 1 and hit him again if necessary". Or, as one of my instructors once put it: "Everybody gets firsts before anyone gets seconds."

The only problem with a single tap is that it is common for the first shot to miss.

That's why I like double taps instead.

If you execute a correct double tap and you miss with the first shot you're going to miss with the second shot. If you have multiple assailants and take the time to put two rounds into that first guy you're going to get shot by the second guy. Shooting fast and accurately is critical; you can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight.

Where do you get all your laws of physics from ??

Well, he's simply right. If you're off target, shooting a second time isn't going to miraculously cause you to hit.

There was no law of physics mentioned, just an asinine comment from someone who doesn't understand reality

Feel free to make as many asinine comments as you wish. But I was just wondering where all these laws of physics come from without performing any experiments.

drawing fast is not a law of physics, accurate shooting is not a law of physics...feel free to make moronic comments to that effect but it diminishes your already lacking credibility....eh?

Bingo. Anyone can be ambushed. In real life it's just impossible to prevent it.

I was ambushed once, in another Country, I was seated at a Bar, having a dink, it was empty except for me and the bartender, and he stepped into the back room to get some Liquor, and a man I did not know started shooting at me, and I returned fire, when the smoake cleared, I was standing he was not....
I was injured, bleeding, of minor injuries....

Not about physics, but about real world application and shooting experience.

You spoke of "double tap", and that if you miss with the first round you'll hit with the second. That's not how it works. Now, if you're talking about a "controlled pair" - i.e. a separate and distinct sight picture for each trigger press - then you can correct sight misalignment and hopefully hit with the second shot; again, ill-advised if you're facing multiple assailants. A true "double-tap", or "hammer" means one sight picture and you press your trigger twice in rapid succession. If you fire a true double tap and miss with your first round you are going to miss with the second shot. When I fire double taps they tend to hit within an inch of each other (if I'm on my game anyway); if I miss with the first shot of the double tap I'm going to miss with the second shot. That's just reality.

This is correct. The most accurate shot in a true double tap is the first. I suppose one could get lucky, but that's not generally how it works.

Having been in a few encounters, when the "it" hits the fan, all that nice tactical stuff often goes flying out the window with the bathwater.....
