The Army Now Has the Most 4-Star Generals on Duty Since World War II

    Well the first question I would ask is how many are in direct command of soldiers or units.

    No but we also don't want leaders who are so risk adverse that their actions, or lack thereof rather, have even worse consequences. Obama's war on ISIS coming to mind. The situation was made worse by him waiting too long to make a decision so that by the time we actually got there we were fighting the largest terror army of the past few centuries instead of the JV team that they actually were when they first reared their head.

    We're also dealing with that at a more direct level right now with risk adverse command teams and risk dismissive command teams. I rarely ever fall under the leadership of a command team that has figured out the proper balance of both, it always seems to be one extreme or the other. I always seem to get either "We're going all in **** it!" or "I can't do anything until we are absolutely sure nothing will go wrong". Being a Staff Advisor to either of those types of command teams is the reason why I have grey hairs.

    in the olden days when the army was just for men, they mitigated risk quite well.
