Modern Chinese government is just the manifestation of tyrants who want to keep power. They aren't uncommon. Their concern for religion, if they can't use it to their advantage, is about negating their enemies from using it to theirs. It's not about God, it's about a belief system that can be used to aid or even drive the challenge to their rule. But I think if you went back farther into both Chinese and Japanese history you'll find plenty of examples of the "state" as God, within the emperor.

Haha well yeah religion is going to be a more emotional topic but the concept is the same.

A certain person whom I've put on ignore long ago just makes assertions about me without watching the video.

And this person says he thinks with science when in the past he's used Ken Ham's silly Ark park as an example of his "science"

Conversely if YOU believe that your imaginary deity is REAL then you have no option but to ACCEPT that he has KILLED 20 billion "unborn babies".

    See how that works?

It's kind of as ridiculous to say that "Christians killed people" as it is to say that "Atheists killed people", unless those people killed specifically due to their religious beliefs, and those are the same type of religious beliefs held today (in the ways that matter) by those in the group to whom we are referring to.

If the enforcers of the Spanish inquisition had a magical kill switch to kill off all non Catholics on the planet do you think they would not pull the switch? They did this in the name of their God. To them they thought you would go to hell if you do not kiss the Papal ring and hence all non Catholics are threats to the souls of all those who will kiss the Papal ring.

You can make the "not true Christian" argument, but then you cannot at the same time say Mao and Stalin did what they did in the name of atheism.

Inquisitioners viewed heresy much as we view disease. They didn't hate heretics as much as they saw them threatening the populace with thoughts that would make them go to hell and pollute the populace so they would too.

During the time of the Inquisition the German and French followers of the Witch Mania killed over 2 million people, the vast majority of which had done nothing more but been old and difficult to be around. But during those same 200 years, the Inquisition killed no more than about 200,000. Over 200 years this is a remarkably merciful record for something which was considered a major capital crime. Their record on torture is somewhat different from the modern conception too. They used it mainly to exonerate rather than extract false confessions on the theory that everyone would confess to stop the pain but only the really innocent would maintain their innocence in the face of torture which would continue even if they did.

No. The majority of people are lied to about the real context behind the Spanish Inquisition and the reason it actually started.

Here's a little fact that most people are not aware of. Compare the dates of the Islamic occupation of Spain to when the Spanish Inquisition started.
It is within the same generation, and that is not a coincidence.
Those who perpetrated the Inquisition had learned all too well the cruelty from their former muslim overlords.

The inquisition started as a backlash against Islam, which was all too understandable at that period of history in Spain. However, due to the slippery slope phenomena the scope of it started expanding.

Muslim rule had already resulted in religious totalitarianism becoming normalized in that area.
(And when they tell you that Islam in Spain "tolerated" Jews and Christians, that is another half lie, they faced the crushingly heavy jizya tax, and could be killed for the slightest provocation, any perceived insults to Islam or false and flimsy accusations)

Another massive load of Bovine Excrement!

The Iberian peninsular was first invaded in 711 AD.

The Inquisition officially started in 1231 AD.

Your HATRED of Islam is WRONG by 520 YEARS!

    Sad!

    So you claim.

Since the topic of this thread is not on the Spanish Inquisition, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, again.

    How is "first invaded" relevant?

That's as stupid as claiming America was colonized in 1607, so it couldn't possibly have had anything to do with the Revolutionary War in 1775.

Most of what you will read about it comes from highly biased sources.
(Written by academics who are looking for any excuse to bash Christians)

I would strongly encourage anyone who wants to read about this to read sources written before 1950.

(Even some sources before then may be somewhat biased because Protestants were looking for excuses to bash Catholics)

Because it took SEVEN YEARS to COMPLETE the invasion of the ENTIRE Iberian Peninsula.

    FACTS matter.

ONUS is on YOU to PROVE that those dates are INCORRECT with CREDIBLE alternate sources because your own "credibility" has already sunk without trace.

Once again, you are derailing another thread.

And I've already explained to you (post #37) how your argument was incredibly and obviously disingenuous.

Sad that you think the start of muslim rule in Spain has something to do with when the last Christians lived under it.

If you want to debate another topic, then please just leave a link here to another discussion, so we can take the debate there without derailing this discussion.

Not letting you derail thread discussions with other topics is not "evading".

But I guess my definition of being "on topic" is very different from yours.
