Guinness Stout is a wonderful beverage, and imho Murphy's Stout is just as good, and for those wanting a sweeter stout, Mackeson, brewed with some unfermentable milk sugar, is also excellent, as are a bunch of American microbrewed stouts. So many great stouts, so little time.
Check out the effort this gentleman went to for a good beer, very clever. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=118_1422006262
Had a sweet tooth yesterday and decided to do a taste test. Bought Mississippi's Lazy Magnolia Sweet Potato Stout ($10.99 six pack), Colorado's Left Hand brewery nitro Milk Stout (also $10.99 six pack), and Sam Adam's new Cream Stout that I hadn't tried before ($7.49 six pack.) at Total Wine, Jacksonville. They didn't have Mackeson, a very sweet stout, and were out of stouts from Southern Tier brewery, (near Buffalo, NY). Thought that the Sam Adams cream stout was neither fish nor fowl. Not as dry as delicious Guinness, but with just a hint of sweetness, but at least the price is okay. The Left hand nitro milk stout is very smooth, and sweeter than, and I think has more body than Lazy Magnolia, and imho is a better buy for someone looking for a sweet stout.
To clarify, piddle is an old English term for the act of urination. Dorset had a river Piddle where some guys have started a brewery. It was only natural to give their products pee-related names! It tastes a lot better than it sounds! .http://www.piddlebrewery.co.uk/
"Many Mexican beer styles today are descendants of old Austrian styles, from when Austria ruled Mexico in the late 19th century. Our Dos Perros is made with German Munich malt, English Pale malt, and Chocolate malt, and hopped with Perle and Saaz hops. To lighten the body, as many Mexican brewers do, we add a small portion of flaked maize. The result is a wonderfully bready malt aroma, balanced with some maize sweetness and a noble hop finish." http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9020/20893/
Sounds good. I'll look for both of them. BTW, if you get into the Jacksonville, FL area, Kickbacks has an amazing 180 beers on tap, including some that are hard to find like Mackeson stout, and it has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You can sit at tables outside on King Street and watch the pedestrians stroll by. http://www.kickbacksgastropub.com/
cultured beer Hops: Cascade Malts: Pale, Wheat Fruits/Spices: Coriander, grains of paradise Special Processing: Add Lactobacillus (souring bacteria) to a portion of the overall wort, which produces lactic acid that gives a characteristic sourness and mouthfeel. That acidic portion is then added to other portion of the wort that was fermented with the Ale yeast. So two worts – a sour and a regular – are blended together to make Snapshot. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/110447/
This Welsh ale has recently been named the Champion Beer of Britain 2015: Had a pint of it last week, and it's well worthy of the title. Absolutely superb! "Arguably the coolest word on the planet, Cwtch* is our very own untraditional Welsh Red Ale. Six malts, two US hops and weeks of Tiny Rebel love and attention go into making this unique beer. Citrus and tropical fruit dominate the taste that is backed up with caramel malts that balance the moderate bitterness. Drinkability & balance makes this beer." http://www.tinyrebel.co.uk/beers/bottles/cwtch/ *Note: 'Cwtch' is a Welsh word meaning 'cuddle'.
That almost made me cry. A BEER thread and it's,so far.. just commercial stuff around DECADES ago? It's like a Cuisine thread and it turns into McDonalds,Burger King and Jack In The Box.
Yes indeed. Quite picky. I NEVER will drive a Ferrari, have a hot date with Cameron Diaz or a week in Tahiti. I HAVE enjoyed beers that are "Special Luxury" ...works of art and craft. MOST of the ELITE beers......you RARELY see IF you go places that DO top Craft...as in.. not the Quickie Mart. I.. however... can hit Beer sources nearby that have a LOT of pretty damn good beer. Even then... Stuff like top Barrel age stouts... tend to be something I only see rarely, maybe Draft Only at the Brewpub or a special Beer fest. Two super fine IPA's are "draft only, Lick The Blade, from Against The Grain (Louisville) and Mandala Citra,Jackie O's in Athens Oh. I LOVE White Rajah, from near Akron and Truth from Rhiengast,Cincinnati... BEST of the IPA's available in bottle (or can) I got Black Rajah today.. a Black IPA ..meaning more dark malt. Also got a six of Edmund Fitzgerald... my choice as Best Porter. Great Lakes also does Elliot Ness.. a VERY quality Lager. Dude.....I can rant about BEERS. I USED to like Imports.. but by now.. most have been bypassed by US Craft. Aecht Schenklera a German Rauch is... an exception. Think...bacon in a bottle. The malts are SMOKED...a lot. It's a Marzen (like most Oktoberfest beers) but the SMOKE...literally.. makes it taste like Bacon Beer. There's American Smoked beers.. nothing like that though. NOT your typical brew. TRES from Dark Horse (Michigan) is a seasonal Blueberry Stout that's really THE one "fruit" beer I like. Just got a couple bottles today. It's seasonal. Someday.. I want to use some to make an ice cream topping. I LIKE IPA's.. I like Stouts and Porters. I WILL at times want some "tweener" a lager..a Pils, A pale ale. a Red Ale. I ain't got the time or the $ to waste on poor grade beer. I DO enjoy the "Big Stouts".... Barrel aged...or not.. with Stuff in it (or not) A mind blower... and maybe a "one time thing" was Kopi-Luack Oil Of Aphrodite. Oil Of Aphrodite is a big, Robust stout..made with local Black Walnuts that you DO taste. Jackie O's has done "variants" as Brewpub draft...and .. the Kopi was a STUNNER. Kopi is a rare and costly coffee, I never had a cup.. but... in that beer it delivered THE perfect Coffee taste that was in great harmony with that big Stout......and at the end of the taste...there's the Black Walnut. You don't FIND that much. Mostly..never.
