From Vox here, the infographic that says it all IF anyone is considering a fundamental alternative to socio-economic policy-making (in a pre-election year):

It has been quite a while that this economist (living in Europe) has been advancing the two crucial elements (given the present historical circumstance) that the US MUST BE CONSIDERING in order to face the general upheaval happening as the world exits the Industrial Age and enters the Information Age.

As the above infographic shows, "We are doing something all wrong!" And the consequence is dangerous for each of us individually as well as collectively.

The essential part of creating jobs is a matter of Demand. American companies are not any longer going to hire a great many people to build chairs or tables or desks - and that's just an example. The change in Demand (of goods and services) is fundamental and has been for quite some time since the Information Age arrived with the Internet in the 1990s.

That is, today the total workforce in the larger sense of "Industry" (as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics) is around only 12% of the total. Yes, boyz-'n-girlz, we have become a Services Economy. And what does that mean?

Specifically, that we need a workforce that is of a higher calibre and different level of competence. One that can be obtained ONLY by an advanced post-secondary degree by which one learns the "knowhow" that companies will need in the future to meet Demand.

Only from there can we have a better understanding of National Taxation that is shown in the unfairness in the infographic above. Because of taxation, the funds/money necessary to make the essential changes is going to the wrong people!

It is shameful and must drastically change from the present for the economy to be more fair, honest and America a decent place to live ...

    :applause:

It is no coincidence that the DOWNWARD spiral of the bottom 50% begins with St Reagan's VOODOO economics and that the GREED OBSESSED 1% crosses over right after the GOP introduced their Contract ON America fiscal malfeasance policies engineered by the Koch brothers.

Caveat regarding the evolution from an Industrial- to a Services-economy:
*If we do this to an extreme, the US becomes dependent upon foreign suppliers for some items - typically not of a services nature. Not all manufacturing can be automated nor should it be. (Companies will answer that riddle depending upon the industry/products.)
*In this instance, there will be an effort to employ further industrial robots in manufacturing, which are far less costly than humans. There is nothing wrong with that given that - despite their expense - robotic-machines are alo far less expensive than humans. (Sorry to say that, but it is a "given" fact that we must contend with.)
*Which means what finally. That we must move as many people as possible UP-THE-GRID of competence. Which means, given the Information Age upon us, they will need to undertake Tertiary Education programs. Which means further, these MUST BE FUNDED equitably amongst all states - meaning some states will specialize in some subjects admitting those from other states at no extra cost. Some state schools will learn to specialize in some subjects but not others. This can only be done when the full range of earning-programs (apprentice, associate, bachelor, master and doctorate) are managed/funded at a national-level so as to assure that all subjects have an educational source for all students across the nation.
*Which happens ONLY when the national Dept. of Education funds the states to provide the necessary programs.

Thanks, but I would like to underscore that what is necessary to the future of the country (in this new Information Age of ours) is that government funding is the key to assuring that ALL americans have a good chance of earning a decent living. Not everybody can be an AI-specialist, and the fact that they are getting far too much attention is questionable. (But not the least bit strange in our "What's the next and best thing coming and let's bump-it with a trumpet!" economy.)

The country needs to offer graduating high-schoolers the opportunity to continue their education to a higher level of competence. It's as simple as that - except for the cost. Yes, as here in Europe, instead of funding the DoD (and their bent for new and powerful "gadgets") that we must fund nationally post-secondary academic programs at public-universities open to all that want to attend.

Only then will both the Truly Poor as well as the not-so-poor portion of the Middle-class be able to have their children enrolled in a post-secondary program. This is the postgraduate program that Bernie proposed and Hillary accepted to into her election-program.

The fact that the winner of that election did not become PotUS - and that Donald Dork did - is yet another sad story in the history of our country ...

It actually began a bit earlier, and with no one else but the lovable JFK. In fact, it was LBJ who signed the bill. The history of Income Taxation in the US looks like this:

What tipped-the-bin to really and truly low levels of taxation was Reckless Ronnie in the 1980s. He brought them down from 70% to around 28% during his tenure.

No wonder the Replicants buy and put up statues to his memory. See here, they are all over the damn place.

Yes, I agree with you - it is a matter of pure, zealous greed. Get rich, and the quicker the better.

And if there's a war to defend the country in some godforsaken place on the planet, let someone else send their kids ... !

    Thank you for that graphic.

Fascinating to note in the red bar chart at the top that we currently have the MOST REGRESSIVE taxation brackets since Income Tax was implemented thanks entirely to the fiscal malfeasance of Republicans/Libertarians.

You ever met a college graduate?

They don't even understand how a simple machine works, or finance, or government, or engineering, or well ****, anything.

    It's not a logical fallacy.

That would be arguing that education at colleges and universities is so completely worthless it must be made free to the individual receiving them to have any value at all, and that will somehow benefit us all.

How am I moving the goal posts?

I was responding to "Specifically, that we need a workforce that is of a higher calibre and different level of competence. One that can be obtained ONLY by an advanced post-secondary degree by which one learns the "knowhow" that companies will need in the future to meet Demand."

College graduates face severe underemployment, low wages, and a lack of bargaining power. We don't need more of them.

So you don't even read the content of your posts?

That is a stereotyping logical fallacy!

And that is a moving the goalposts fallacy because you failed to address your stereotyping fallacy in your response!

If you can't defend what you actually post then your credibility suffers.
