"John Kelly is expected to resign as White House chief of staff in the coming days. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Trump is directing calls away from Kelly and toward Nick Ayers—Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff—who has long been rumored as Kelly's eventual replacement."

That was written on Friday. On Saturday, Trump announced that Kelly was history.

That got me thinking. Why in the world would.Nick Ayers, an ambitious rising political star in the GOP, hook his star to a loser, a President who has committed two felonies according to N.Y. prosecutors, a President charged with collaboration with a hostile foreign government and obstruction of justice, and a President living on the edge awaiting the Mueller report that could cause his impeachment?

Well, I was right. Ayers turned Trump down. He not only is refusing Trump's offer, he plans on leaving the White House entirely. Ayers tweeted a thanks but no thanks message filled with the usual B.S.

Thank you @realDonaldTrump, @VP, and my great colleagues for the honor to serve our Nation at The White House. I will be departing at the end of the year but will work with the #MAGA team to advance the cause. [IMG] #Georgia

The job of chief staff is often thankless and exhausting even in a conventional administration. He or she will inherit a White House that is deeply threatened by a criminal investigation and allegations of abuse of power than at any time since the Nixon administration. And every week, the situation gets darker with the President under threat from formidable prosecutors on two fronts -- from Mueller who works under the supervision of the Justice Department and from the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The new chief of staff will work for a President who has been accused, effectively by his own Justice Department, of directing and cooperating in the commission of a crime -- in payoffs to women who accused him of affairs, in contravention of campaign finance laws.

Who would want the job? That appears to be in serious question. It seems people are not exactly lining up for the chance to try to organize Trump's impulsive and unpredictable operation in the face of the myriad alleged "high crimes and misdemeanors." U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. along with New York Yankees President Randy Levine have already kindly demurred.

Some of Trump's White House chief of staff contenders are signaling they're not interested, including White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is among the candidates who could serve as White House chief of staff, with one source calling him a "strong option" for the job. That could get a bit dicey. As a federal prosecutor, Christie sent Jared Kushner's father to jail.

There is never a dull moment in the Trump White House.

How many of them were fired like prebus or were no longer in speaking terms with Obama when they left?

Who would be stupid enough to take the job of Chief of Staff for Trump? Especially given the recent history? Only a masochist, a complete idiot or someone with no career prospects whatsoever would sign on to this mess. I'm thinking Trump may not bother with one, he's always been on his own with the Trump Org. I'd love to see him on his own - just when you think the situation can't possibly get any worse, it will......

Just maybe its because you are still living the Liberal dream world instead of reality. There has never been any charge of collaboration with a foreign government, there are no charges of obstruction, and there are no charges of any felonies, and Mueller hasn't provided any evidence about Russian collusion. Other than that, what part of this story has any accuracy. What is this. Number 543 we got um now post? When you get back to reality let us know because all you got here is more TDSing with a side of hot sauce.

It could be tough working for a President who is so dumb he can't spell "smoking."

    Trump's tweet early this morning.

    Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

“Democrats can’t find a Smocking Gun tying the Trump campaign to Russia after James Comey’s testimony. No Smocking Gun...No Collusion.” @FoxNews That’s because there was NO COLLUSION. So now the Dems go to a simple private transaction, wrongly call it a campaign contribution,...

He murders the spelling of "smoking" in almost childish fashion. Then, so no one mistakes it for a typo, he does again, misspelling it the same way.

Wow! This guy is the President, and he is communicating with his base, in other words, millions of Americans. And he can't spell "smoking!"

Take it one step further. Who would be stupid enough to take any job with trump? It would be nothing short of career suicide.

Those chiefs faced difficult political issues like health care and the first black President. Trump's chiefs face his criminal charges, the threat of impeachment, their brethren (DOJ) investigating the President, and the necessity of having to hire lawyers of their own because of Trump.

Trump won't admit it because Kelly was popular among Americans, but, for all intents and purposes, Trump fired Kelly. Americans viewed Kelly as a calming force in the turbulent White House, and now he is gone. Things could get a lot more chaotic with him gone ... if that's possible.

Trump needs to throw in two lawyers with any appointment. Those guys don't make enough money to cover the legal fees for trying to implement Trump's illegal policies. It will be worse after the first of the year.

True. No matter how clean he was to start with, Mueller and the democrats will find or make up something to convict him.

Perhaps tRump could call upon one of his ex-apprentice winners to stabilize his staff's constant comings and goings.

Investigation is fine, but the when the way to avoid jail time becomes a trade for information, then we are heading down a very dangerous road and at some point, it is not worth it.

Trump and his motley crew have so cheapened and diminished the office of the presidency that people who would otherwise consider the role of COS a golden opportunity to further their political career are treating it as if it is radioactive. Trump has transformed The White House into Chernobyl.

Everybody with an IQ above double-digits knows that any association with the Trump Trainwreck is career suicide.

is it really any wonder that he can't find a Clueless Stooge to take such a Thankless Job?

I have always thought plea bargains should be illegal. If you're in a tough spot, innocent, but facing a 20% chance of facing 50 years prison, it makes sense to trade down to 10 years prison or less.

Innocent or guilty doesn't matter. Game theory makes it the rational choice. To lie and say you did it.

During my work experience in the world I have found the bosses who are hard to work for get more done. The bosses everyone likes are in-charge by name only.

It is all a silly mistake. Trump didn't say he would pick the best people. He said, he will pick ON the best people.

While he hasn't gotten around to spitting on Mother Theresa's grave yet, he is busy.

Which is why Whitaker is such a great choice. He's only temporary at DOJ...so find someone for the permanent post and then Trump will finally have the boot licker he so desires at his side.

I agree...being likable is not the best way to lead. But all the best leaders surround themselves with people who excel in areas where they, themselves, are not as strong...and they let them fly. Neither of those two things have happened with the Trump administration.

Exactly, which is why he is having a great deal of trouble filling the post. My guess, he will be his own chief of staff then things will get far more chaotic in the White House.

I agree. He refuses to follow the rules established by the chief of staff. The biggest problem, when his relatives who serve as senior advisors want to talk to daddy or daddy-in-law.

You always bat a thousand. You manage to get everything wrong. Either you ignore what is happening or you don't know what is happening. Those are the only two choices.

That is what the special prosecutor has been investigating for the past 18 months. Geez, man, you didn't know that?

That is what the special prosecutor has been investigating for the past 18 months. Geez, man, you didn't know that?

Yes, there are. The prosecutor of the southern district of N.Y. has said that INDIVIDUAL ONE (Trump) has committed two felonies, making a secret contribution to his election campaign and conspiracy to keep vital info from voters.

That is because Mueller hasn't submitted his report yet. Gee, I really thought everyone knew that.
