Here and there I've noted reactions to this walking, talking freak show that can be boiled down to these three:

He's a courageous beacon of enlightenment.

He's not doing any harm, so who cares?

    He's mentally ill.

The first two are obviously wrong, and the third only hints at the reality. Jenner has become a beacon of endarkenment that will surely lead others to make one of the most extravagantly stupid mistakes a person can make, and whatever passes for courage in this creature's public persona is something no decent person in his or her right mind can possibly find admirable.

Now perhaps few will agree with the characterization of Jenner as an instrument of evil, but some of you surely agree that the idea of a man becoming a woman is abject lunacy, in which case I invite you to consider Winston Smith, who in 1984 was made to believe, after a regimen of torture, that he saw five fingers where there were only four to be seen. Surely, if your aim were to demoralize a society, you'd want its members to believe lies; but how much "better" would it be to get them to believe such lies as Jenner and his admirers believe? And why, if the Winston Smiths of the world need to be tortured to believe relatively innocuous lies, can the sanity of others be more seriously compromised when they never get within lightyears of Room 101?

If you're in such a poor mental state that Jenner's sex change "demoralizes" you, then the problem isn't Jenner.

Jenner has had a problem for a very long time. I really don't care what he does and if he likes himself then that's good for him. The problem is he now says he is the "new normal", get friggen serious, if he believes this he then is dangerous.

Predictably, you didn't understand anything you read.

    Sure about that?

If there's a human being left in that disfigured body, the best case scenario is that he's uncomfortably numb. As for his public persona, not only is it not human, it's inimical to humanity.

The determination of leftists to project their own hatred onto the commonsensically inclined ceased to astound the y-man many a year ago.

The "New Normal" is a scary concept! It really is Libs! For once admit that this type of "normal" is a bit odd!

I hardly think it's normal to spend so much time fanaticizing about Jenner's genitals.

I think it's rather humorous that the very people who accuse conservatives of being mysoginistic cavemen for stereotyping women are the first ones to applaud the idea that one can become a woman by changing from a male name to a female name, install some fake jugs, fake plumbing, having a particular haircut that is associated with women, and wearing a dress.

and don't forget that this probably involved a lot of psychological counselling to assist in this gender change, but if somebody mentions psychological counselling to assist in changing from homosexual to heterosexual, it's quite possible that ben affleck and barbra streisand will be busy looking through their rolodexes looking for a reliable politically correct hitman.

I know that he is married and has children, but does this whole thing involve him becoming gay? Or was he heterosexual before, and now a lesbian?

NEW YORK - The former psychiatrist-in-chief of Johns Hopkins Hospital is continuing his decades-long fight against transgender surgery as a solution to what he calls "a disorder of 'assumption.'"

In a June 12 Wall Street Journal op-ed, Dr. Paul McHugh wrote that "policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered" by not treating transgender "confusions ... as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention."

Dr. Paul McHugh says the best way to help children struggling with their gender is not surgery but "devoted parenting."

According to McHugh, the "sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects." The first, he says, is that "it does not correspond with physical reality." The second, more importantly, is that not treating transgender disorder properly "can lead to grim psychological outcomes."

In his op-ed, McHugh cited a 2011 study that followed "324 sex-reassigned persons" from 1973 to 2003 in Sweden. According to the study’s abstract, it found that "persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population."

"Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group,” the authors wrote.

The study, McHugh wrote in his op-ed, found that “beginning about 10 years after having the surgery, the transgendered began to experience increasing mental difficulties. Most shockingly, their suicide mortality rose almost 20-fold above the comparable nontransgender population."

And I, while not being a liberal, find it completely ludicrous that we have to define our identities of who we our by making us, both men and women, a slave to our biology.

We are so much more than that.

We should be allowed to make our own way in life.

That's what real Americans do, is we find out own ways in life.

Jenner is not courageous. He is whacked. He should not be embraced, but held at arms length like a dirty gym sock.

Actually I'm not sure if he is courageous, but it does take some amount bravery to go against the norms of society, when you know how society will treat you if you do not meet their expectations and demands.

Make no mistake though, I do not consider him the hero the left wants to make him out to be.

The elft only wants to do this to spite the conservatives. otherwise, they'd drop the matter.

Who gets to decide for all what constitutes wrong, reality, stupid mistakes, decent person, right mind... and by what authority?

    - - - Updated - - -

Why? What harm is he causing others? If the answer is none then why apply a negative judgment?

I am always fascinated by the denigration of trasngendered folks by calling them names.

While I think that Jenner deserves few kudos for his self promotion and profiting, presumably, of his condition, I don;t think he deserves the disdain he is receiving.

Whacked. Creature. Mentally ill. Instrument of evil.

I think that what decisions are made by Caitlynn Jenner (sp?) are her business. I think that her transition does not negatively impact me, nor anyone else on this forum. Perhaps her family ma have some things to work through, but the general populace? Not really.

So why attack her and call her names personally? Gender dysphoria is a medically recognized condition. One, that if not treated can cause devastating mental trauma, up to and including suicide. Does she therefore deserve to be ridiculed on this level? Are we so backwards as a society we have to resort to calling folks whom we do not understand names?

I said this in another thread on this subject, but I have no idea where that went off to so I'll repeat myself.

Jenner is not a hero, he gave in to his demons. There are people out there who want to have their arms and legs amputated, is that normal and should we give in to their urges and call them heroes? What about a person who has extreme urges to kill animals, inject heroine or commit suicide? Do we call a guy who caves in and commits suicide a hero or a guy with a problem? When people (like my mother-in-law) start hearing voices in their head, do we call them heroes when they give in and start listening to them and begin talking back, or do we say they need help?

What Jenner is doing is not making him into a woman, if anything, it's making him look like a woman.

As a conservative. Heres my two cents. The guy won gold medals for the U.S. He was bigger than any athlete on the planet at that time. If he was suffering emotional stress for all those years being something he didnt want to be and is now happy living out the remainder of his life as who he wants to be who are we to judge him? Many people forced into hiding who they are sometimes commit suicide. Is that what people really would want? To read about Bruce Jenner suicide? If so what kind of people does that make us? Is this really how we treat fellow citizens and human beings who united a nation and brought us to our feet? He brought us gold....is this how we give thanks for that. I dont speak for anyone else...but Im certainly better than that.

Please, he's no more a conservative than he is a woman.

You and I have been down this road plenty of times.

See Steve N's post #12. Also this.

Actually it's perfectly clear that this creature wants its decisions to be our business as well.

How about people who are on the verge of deciding to get their bodies permanently mutilated? Think this PR campaign might affect them?

You don't think the family members those people who follow Jenner's example might end up with some "things to work through"?

    Why not?

And what, precisely, makes you such think treatment as Jenner has received is, on average, better than benign neglect?

Please, I understand Jenner a million times better than you do.

You're pretty much spot on. But Jenner voluntarily put himself on a magazine cover looking like a woman and then allowed them to 'Shop it up even more. He could have done all this without us ever knowing about it.

He's obviously mentally disturbed. To marry multiple times and keep this from people for most of his life, reeks of being unstable. He's also an obvious attention whore, bordering on addiction. If he was ONLY doing it for him, he wouldn't want to be on magazine covers or selling books and starting a speaking tour which will reach untold millions. He knew this would be a massive paycheck as soon as he considered it. And sorry, but its not brave to be sick. And he is sick. If being "normal" is having no clue what you are, then all hope is lost. There is no such thing as a Normal at all if we can define ourselves as whatever we want to be through medical procedures. There are people who keep getting facial surgeries because they want to be perfect, but they just destroy themselves. This is just as sick.

Anyone see Escape from LA? Remember that scene?

Is he a good person? Sure. He's not BAD or horrible. He just has major mental issues as does anyone who can't define what he/she is. He's certainly no saint doing this for the greater good. There's a $$$ figure behind it all.

And many who experience such "liberation" as Jenner has do as well. Go figure.

    See above.

What do you think we're witnessing, if not incremental suicide?

Once upon a time, Benedict Arnold was more of an American hero than Jenner ever thought of being.

Perhaps your moral direction finder needs recalibrating.
