I glance with interest everyday what news is breaking on a number of news sites and will investigate further the indepth news if it captures my attention enough. By far, the Daily Telegraph is so much more full of pessimism and negativity that I just wonder whether the population is starting to see through the trash. Not a day goes by without this paper digging up something on terrorism, links to terrorism or suspects in terrorism here and overseas it is becoming boringly monotonous and outright dangerous. On one hand you've got those that become hysterical and think about doing stupid things and on the other hand it is a case of the little girl who cried wolf. This corporation and its news paper is divisively evil to say the least.
It just recently included an article about the increasing Asian population in Sydney. Talk about stirring up hate and division! These hard working communities made up of varying Asian ethnic groups have contributed massively to Australia's success as a nation both financially and socially. Anyway, what the paper was alluding to or attempting to skew was the real numbers. Yes, there are pockets of Asians communities in Sydney, but the overall populations is still quite minimal at 4% of Australia's population.....not that it bloody matters anyway. We are a small country that requires population to boost our economy and who better to have here than hard working ethnic groups who strive for the top in all that they do through community resourcefulness and obviously good cultural practice encapsulating their motivations. Yeah, most are bilingual unlike us but prefer to speak in their mother tongue because they have sufficient numbers to do so.....really, who cares if they speak a different language. Is it really that big of an issue? For those who's emotions are stirred up as a consequence, you'd only think that there are elements of envy and jealousy. Who cares if they're not into to BBQ's with shrimps or don't wear thongs or boardies? Who cares if they look different to us. What is all the carry on over this stuff.

Australia would still be some back water state with nothing going for it if these migrant populations didn't make up the numbers, with their work ethos in both a practical and study sense. Look, at the end of the day, they have every right as a human being to be here and contribute to our societies. No, they may not like our sports....who cares?

What matters to me is that they, firstly, are human beings and contributing members of society both socially and economically. Some of the negative sentiment no doubt drives pockets of ethnic groups, due solely to the fact that people in Australia can be shallow numbskulls who make life hard for anyone different from them.

I'm your traditional Aussie who has lived and breathed the Aussie way of life, but I'm also the first to acknowledge that these people have helped to make me feel richer culturally and financially. We are a much more sophisticated nation as a consequence, but if we were all motivated by "some"of our Aussie ideals we would be an incredibly lacklustre country never reaching our full potential. We are all just recent arrivals to this land and should not cheekily attempt to superficially protect it against people we don't consider being the same because of our own silly bigotry based on ignorance and ethnocentrism!

I'm sick to death of this corporation and their attempts to divide us for their own evil motives.

If the UK is a guide then the right wing trash press might be on the wane. The Daily Mail failed to get the Tories a massive win. I think people are heartily sick of it all.

I can see what they've done is take the latest census information and twist it into whatever gives them the biggest stir. Unfortunately there are many who fall for this rubbish. Australians need to open their minds and understand they are part of Asia, geographically this is where we are and we need to embrace it... not fight it. The Daily Telegraph is on par with the other bottom feeders like women's day and other celeb gossip mags.

Papers like the Tele make their coin & get their influence from appeals to emotion - fear, anger, envy, sympathy, pride. Throw in a big dose of tribalism, be it nationalism or sport, and you have a formula for high circulation. Its a similar formula to tabloid TV & talk radio and it appeals to a similar/the same audience.

In Melbourne the Herald Sun will run damned near any story it can find about Collingwood Football club. Why? because its the biggest club in town & especially among HUN readers. Measured by pages devoted on a single day, what is the biggest story in the history of the HUN? Something in WW2? Kennedy assassination? Holt drowning? Moon landing or 9/11? Nope, it was Wayne Carey being caught shagging his team mates wife. AFL is about emotion, so it occupies a disproportionate amount of space.

For the most part it is pretty nasty stuff, but it reflects on the consumers more than anything else.

You'd only hope so. There is certainly zero balance with these conservative tabloids. They are hate preaching manipulators targeting the mindless.

We are about to get a huge change in tabloid focus-George has been charged , and he's looking forward to his day in court-pending the OK from his doctor.

No big surprises, it was on the cards for a while. Yep, the Catholic Church are about to attract some more unwanted focus. While on this topic, it's strange how he is fit enough to run all of the vaticans finances but unfit to fly back to face the music.

I feel a bit sorry for Pope Francis copping all this mess after his predecessor chickened out.

We dont seem to get the hyperbolic outrage that seems to infect the AMerican right.

"Teen had Trump logo airbrushed off of T Shirt"

REally? China is trying to Annex half the China sea and you worry about some pimple faced twonk who is upset because it cannot have a name on a T shirt in his class photo

I think it is probably because the average Aussies reaction to something like this is

"What the **** has that got to do with the Footy Scores!!" ;)

Agree absolutely. I do wonder though, if it is a defence mechanism. I can't really think that Wayne Carey's shenanigans can compare with the election of Donald Trump. Maybe it's just that we don't make a big thing about the stuff we take seriously.

It's all about dumbing down for the dummies who function purely off of emotions. There is no intellectual base at all in any of his tabloids. Just emotion stirring news.

He vehemently opposed the NBN....an educational tool and quicker, cheaper source of access to entertainment. His opposition was all about protecting Foxtel. He paid a monster amount of money for our leading sports, but it will eventually happen where sponsors will sell their games via streaming on net and throw this clown out of business you'd hope in very near future. It will be cheaper for viewers by cutting out this greedy middle man!

Dummies shot emselves in the foot with this cheaper version of NBN.

He doesn't want money for schools, people will become to smart...............

This is a simple result of the echo chambering of media. All sides of the debate do it. The Guardian and ABC do it for the left, The Australian and The Daily Telegraph do it for the right.

I've always said that there is no easy solution to this problem. You can NEVER place your faith in others on media. You have a responsibility as a rational individual to expose yourself to a wide variety of news sources from varying backgrounds, to compare, contrast, and extract the truth from a world trying to deceive you at every turn.

    _______________________________________________________________________________

As far as immigration goes, I have a rather odd perspective on it which not many people seem to share, presumably because they get captured by one of the two camps mentioned above.

Immigration, for me, is not a problem because of the immigrants per se, it's a problem because of the systemic moral hazard we have set up which encourages welfare migration. People who choose to give up life in a safe Turkey or Azerbaijan to flee half way around the world to, predictably, the nations with the best social safety nets are not doing so because they enjoy the sound of their own footsteps.

I support abolishing or seriously reforming the welfare state to disincentivise this sort of arrival, who likely has no intention of adopting the host country's culture, who typically don't share its values, and who are easily locked into segregated pockets of their own community.

I support positive immigration. The Asian Invasion was mostly positive in large part because Asians tend to have a strong work ethic. Today they are above the median income. Good on them, I'd like to see more of this.

If you have no social safety net to fall back on you have to apply yourself and are unlikely to come if you aren't willing to put in the hard yard.

One thing that sticks out like dogs balls is that the conservative right wing media simply aim to divide people with half truths. Stir up emotions and then call for unfettered free speech to drive the wedge in further. So, because the ABC supports marriage and racial equality, support for the weak, wounded and suffering from all walks....and the good ol fair go for everyone l, they are left wing media?

What's your evidence on this welfare migration claim?

I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I read the Telegraph. I think it was a Tele I used once in a park, someone had left it on a park bench and I had forgotten a doggy poop bag

No you wouldn't see the left do any of that would you? They would never drive a wedge in society.

Just as godawful and insular as the SMH and it's ilk - produced by people who think everyone is an atheist liberal, drinks wine, earns $1m a year, and lives within 10kms of the CBD.

    No... don't burst their bubble.

seriously, this constant barrage at media bias gets laughable when the partisan political supportes want to pretend innocence on their side.
