    J. Quincy Adams was of the party of Jefferson,
generally considered the ancestor of today's Democratic Party.

The Republican Party did not exist until 1856, I think,
as a new Party made up of powerless Wigs and abolitionist
    among others.

You must have missed the section of civics class where it's explained that the whole point of the Senate is each state is equally represented.

I know. I wish we could hook up with Baja, Sonora, Oregon and Washington and start out own country. But without our economy the whole country would go down the crapper so it’s never going to happen.

That part of the constitution was written before they started taking huge hunks of unpopulated land, cutting it up into square pieces and calling them States.

It does not show the years of membership in each party.but it is safe to say he was a conservative.

Adams was also a member of the FEDARILIST Party,he won the presidency in 1824 at the age of 56 but what party he was elected as president for I am not sure.I will look online for all presidents and see if it says there.

It says he was elected president as a DEMOCRATIC_REPUBLICAN the same as the three presidents who immediately preceded him in office.

You mean the majority white racist USA? Here I thought progressives were concerned about minority rights.

    Go figure.

agree, some people votes should not be worth more than other just because of where they live

millions more American voters voted for Hillary, yet Trump won

can you imagine the outrage if Obama lost the popular vote but still won... I can

He was elected under the "democratic republican" party, he was initially a federalist like his Father the second president of the US
then joined the Democratic Republican, then then aligned himself with the National Republican party ( they opposed Hamilton and Jackson)

which morphed into the Whig party who split because one group supported slavery expansion into the new Territories and the other faction wanted to abolish slavery and called themselves " the republican party" in 1854, the official name

All parties called themselves "republicans" including the democratic republicans until Andrew Jackson shortened it in the 1800's

Hence J.Q.Adams was not a "republican" as we know it after 1854

same thing for Liberal, its not the same meaning today as it was yesteryear

I know. The Framers had no idea there would be any additional states, even though many of them supported westward expansion.

The two Dakotas, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Nebraska have 12 US Senators and all of them put together don’t equal the population of California who only has 2. We are grossly under represented in the US Senate.

Apparently you don't understand a referendum approving Hitler's appointment to the Presidency after Hindenburg kicked the bucket was a vote by the people.

Yes they do, but in all but the instances listed the popular vote was in agreement with their vote and DEMOCRACY was served when they were in agreement.

He was appointed in a republic, not elected in a democracy.
