Here is a really good write up on some of the current levels of research regarding the effectiveness of masks. The TLDR is that masks, even the cloth ones, provide some protection and some protection is better than none. But they should not be relied upon to get us back to normal and the primary benefit they provide is for limiting the ability to infect others as opposed to preventing yourself from being infected.

that 1.4 million is the tip of the iceberg. The number is probably past 20 million or more. We only tested people with symptoms. I just found out that a friend had blood work and guess what, has antibodies and never a symptom

I saw that in my search. They didn't give specifics as to effectiveness. Only to say, something is better than nothing.

But is it really?

If one thinks they are protected or protecting others with a shoddy mask, to me that is more dangerous than one without being conscious of where their mouth and nose face when being in close proximity to someone.

To me, cloth masks just aren't good enough. And wearing one is no better than not wearing one.

Surgical masks, which I see more and more of, supposedly block about 50% of virus particles. Good, but still not what I call safe.

 

They are a mainly a feel good measure. Liberals love a good feel good measure rather they work or not. See gun control in CA, NY, IL, DC etc for a real world example of feel good measures that fail at fixing the issues.

 

That would only further my point that more recover than die from this virus.

The right of choice is choosing for yourself, not for others. Perhaps you need to refresh yourself on that.

 

There are a number of viruses that virtually 'everybody' carries, that remain latent or asymptomatic. I haven't seen an outcry of pandemic, we're all gonna die! for those viruses....
