Was May ever a positive choice? Cameron was unwilling or unable to resolve the conflict in his own party and thought he could put the Brexiters away with a referendum. May picked up Humpty Dumpty when not many were prepared to try gluing him back together.
Clearly, both major parties require an infusion of new ideas and new leadership.
The structure still exists in the parliamentary system for the development of a new political consensus. Whether it will be a new party or parties, or a takeover of old parties, is the question. I don't think people are ready yet to give up on democracy.

What is predictable is this paranoid reaction to it.

Jean-Claude Juncker calls for EU army
European commission president says this military development would persuade Russia the bloc is serious about defending its values

    ...

Juncker, who has been a longstanding advocate of an EU army, said getting member states to combine militarily would make spending more efficient and would encourage further European integration.

“Such an army would help us design a common foreign and security policy,” the former prime minister of Luxembourg said.

“Europe’s image has suffered dramatically and also in terms of foreign policy, we don’t seem to be taken entirely seriously.”

    ... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...calls-for-eu-army-european-commission-miltary

That's the reasoning behind it, not some silly Big Government power-grab.

Absolutely a Big Government power grab. It is as plain as day. Review the history of other empires. Always ignore what politicians say and watch what they do.

Corbyn should be leading a party poised to replaced a failed Conservative Party, but Labour is losing ground in the polls.

Yeah, let's just ignore all of the relevant details and insert whatever grand conspiracy theory we like in their place.

Thanks SH - I guess it kind of exemplifies the 'Democracy might not be perfect, but it's the least worst option.' aphorism?? lol

Agreed. The people haven't given up on democracy. It's the political class who've done that. And the repercussions of that abandonment has yet to play out.

Will MPs Give EU a Win-Win Brexit?....

One thing Theresa May said last night that was – strangely enough – actually true, is that a no-deal Brexit on 29 March remains the default position unless the law is changed to prevent it.

It remains the default position even if MPs continue their betrayal of their constituents today by voting on a motion to extend the Article 50 negotiations. That motion does not change the law any more than yesterday’s did. All it does is send Theresa May back to Brussels to take more orders from the EU.

Far from asserting parliamentary sovereignty and ‘taking back control of Brexit’, by voting against no-deal MPs have just handed the keys to the whole process and thereby to our democracy to unelected Eurocrats.

It’s fairly safe to assume that Brussels will insist that there is yet another vote on the twice-rejected BRINO deal or a very long extension to allow for a second referendum. Either way, Brexit will be stopped for now and in mid-April we become liable to the full 2019 budget contribution.

So it would be a win-win for the EU

So no deal is still on the table. It ain’t over yet. But it will surely go down to the wire. The repercussions on British politics, the pact between the electorate and their representatives if the EU is allowed to dictate the terms of our humiliation and decide our future, will take much longer to resolve.....snip~

Briefings for Brexit is a good site for all the straight dope on it. This year the EU will hold elections so they to will have to make a decision.

Hopefully the Brits will tell the EU to go **** themselves. Especially Brussels and Germany.

EU Adds Fourth Lock to Withdrawal Agreement

I hear the Poles are supporting the Brits Leave Option.

May is toast and so to is Corbyn. So might a lot of other MP's if they don't do what the People want.

    Reports
The Mystery Surrounding GATT Article XXIV: The Crash-Proof Exit Option, by Michael Burrage

Why the obvious and mutually advantageous route to free trade with the EU has been given so little attention? Economist Michael Burrage describes the use of the GATT XXIV rule, which is specifically designed for trade relations between countries involved in ongoing negotiation. Use of the rule would allow the UK and EU to continue with tariff-free trade arrangements until they can agree a formal free-trade agreement. This is a realistic prospect, which has been used by numerous other countries during negotiations, including India and Pakistan.

“If Mrs May tried and failed to negotiate an exit with the help of Article XXIV, she has much to gain, and nothing to lose, by telling the British people why it failed. Was she discouraged by legal advice or soundings at the WTO? Did the EU expect too much in return? If she did not try because she was not aware of this option… she might anyway consider trying an Article XXIV exit now.”.....snip~

So is it crash proof or not?

There definitely is a political class. I can't count the times I've been in pubs around Whitehall around 5 pm on weekdays and watched young bureaucrats, male and female, dressed in their black suits and wondered how many were in any way dedicated to doing the public's business.

The EU wants to punish and make Britain suffer so as to discourage other nations from following suit. This is why they can't modify their position.

Funny, how Zbiggy said it in the 90's and at a time when Clinton was president, since Clinton was the one that enabled 6 corporations to buy up the main stream medias. Is it the way things developed, or is it the way they planned things to develop?

This is May: My way or the highway...

There was some talk last week that May might revoke article 50 if she is forced by the EU to delay leaving on the 29th by a year or more. Kicking the can down the road is part of the second referendum's strategy, with the idea being that eventually the whole subject will go away.

Given May's own Remainer leanings this would would not surprise me in the least.

So it does not matter that your arguments against the EU are completely irrelevant because they are wrong ... but anyway, the EU is still evil, simply because it is the EU? Ehm .... OK .... noted!

Alas ... the EU is still guilty of your incompetent politicians too?
Is not it enough that every argument for Brexit is based on lies and that most Brexit supporters have no idea about the EU at all ... so about what they are yelling about?

Go to the posher restaurants in and around Westminster and you'll often see well known pols dining with besuited, faceless ones conversing in hushed tones as they drip sauce onto their ties.

    It's an ugly sight.

I hear the name Bill Clinton and I always think of Mena, Arkansas and the story of Barry Adler Seal (HERE).

But then I'm a convinced cynic....

Fortunately, I'm not as familiar as Brits with the faces of the pols. :)

I did see Frank Lampard in his heyday as a great footballer eating ice cream in Harrods one table away. I asked my wife if she recognized him and she shook her head. "He's Frank Lampard," I said. "Who's Frank Lampard?" she asked. Hmmm.
