A Futuristic Suicide Machine Aims to End the Stigma of Assisted Dying The right to life means the right to end yours. Your life is yours to live, not your neighbors to control, not society's to command, not the State's to rule, and not God's to play with. Yours, as is your death. Be human. Be rational. Be what you choose, dead or alive. https://leapsmag.com/a-futuristic-suicide-machine-aims-to-end-the-stigma-of-assisted-dying/
I always thought a mask delivering 100% nitrous oxide would be very painless, you'd be so high on the Nitrous, you'd be to stoned to notice you died of oxygen deprivation. The nitrous oxide is not toxic but the lack of oxygen is. Hence the dentist delivers both gasses. I'd be fine with a gunshot, just do it outdoors, no one want's to clean up, that mess.
Well hopefully, it’s used as a relaxing, rational method for leaving life, and not as a freeze-dry biscuit maker.
If someone decides to jump from a 100-story building to their death...this is their decision. There are no laws about this. There is no prevention. All of us have the means to off ourselves in minutes if we wish, however, with all the collateral issues and emotions involved, there should be a more dignified way to process our final act. And to do this without the pissy religious overtones or government laws...
Our definition of insane involved being a danger to self and others. By that definition, anybody that would want to kill themselves is insane, and hence, they are not rational enough to determine if they should kill themselves.
Im thankful that I can't imagine the emotional suffering that would lead one to ponder suicide. But I have to suspect that even if I could, I'd still want to go out with a purpose. Like shot to mars just to see if I could make it there alive before dying, or maybe just see how far I get on foot across antarctica or something. Even a silly purpose would be better than none. I can't even begin to imagine just shooting or hanging or 'podding' myself... I don't think I have the same understanding of 'dignity' as others do. Dying peacefully for no reason doesnt seem dignified. ...which is in no way an argument in support of banning suicide, btw. Dignity should be up to the individual.
Even the lowest forms of animal life don't need to suffer prolonged pain, which could be many weeks or months, until nature decides to relieve it for ever. What the hell does this decision have to do with any interfering third party?
The difference is: Soylent Green was the Apocalyptics running amok and creating a self-made hell; this device applies to an individual freely and rationally deciding his pain and suffering has made his life unbearable.
