There was no Lisbon Treaty in 1998, no Article 50 or an exit plan to leave the EU.
Since 2009, there has been a way out of the EU for member states.
Perhaps we should sign a new agreement with Ireland.
One that recognizes and deals with a side's right to leave the EU, a peace treaty fit for purpose in a world with Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Unfortunately, The Good Friday Agreement is not up for negotiation.

So perhaps the UK should just withdraw from The Good Friday Agreement since Ireland are unwilling to amend it effecting the UK's departure from the EU.

The UK can’t just withdraw from the agreement, it’s been bound in to both UK and NI law (not to mention Irish law too). We could just break it where it’s inconvenient for Brexit and there would be little anyone could do to stop us but the political (and potentially paramilitary!) consequences could be very serious.

Anyway, if we’re talking about just unilaterally breaking international treaties, why not just ignore the Lisbon Treaty and declare the UK out of the EU with immediate effect? ;)

    I agree.

The Good Friday Agreement assures no hard border and, Sinn Féin fear their own people from targeting it because it stops the island of Ireland acting like it's a country in terms of borders, not with money, still have two currencies because there are still two countries on that island, but as far as borders go, the IRA hate them.
So, maybe we should replace it with a border and harsh consequences with anti terror laws to ensure the peace for all those who target it - fore it's the fear of terrorism that is making us keep The Good Friday Agreement, and we all know what happens when we let fear win... *The Terrorists Win.

I have been watching some films recently about how the British exploited the Irish to the point of allowing a million or more to die in the famine while we looked after our elites economic interests. The exploitation was much worse than I had known. Sounds like you are wanting the English to get restarted on their barbarity.

Have you seen a documentary on a post 9/11 world where we don't bow down to terrorists?
If we have strict anti terror laws nowadays, surely anyone who attacks the border should run fowl of these anti terror laws.

The real problem isn't a border, the real problem is people attacking that border.
