Curious to note that no one is commenting on the above even though it is being viewed.

Perhaps because it is a sobering look at the reality we could be facing in the near future?

Hard to deny the words of the doctors dealing with it themselves and even harder to pretend that we here in the States are even remotely prepared to deal with something of this magnitude.

However it would be the height of foolish arrogance to presume that we are not just as susceptible to this happening as Italy, South Korea, Iran and China.

 

The person that you are quoting is writing as if the world is coming to an end. That clearly is not the case. One can easily find Chicken Littles in this whole situation, as well as your Dr Drew's of the world who are entirely downplaying the virus and its accompanying dangers as anything that out of the ordinary in comparison to the the yearly flu epidemic. I think that most people probably opt for a middle of the road analysis.

He keeps talking about bilateral interstitial pneumonia. That does not mean that the virus is causing Interstitial pneumonia. It means that people with interstitial pneumonia are the ones that are going into ICU as a result of this virus. FWIW....people with interstitial pneumonia (which is typically pulmonary fibrosis) have a life expectancy between 2 and 3 years in the absence of the Corona virus. If one were to be around people with interstitial pneumonia all day long in an ICU unit, it would be easy to have the perspective that this illness is the end of the world. Unfortunately for most people with interstitial pneumonia, their remaining life looks bleak with or without the Corona virus. With that being said, I think that it is counterproductive to present that disease state as if that is a risk for society as a whole as a result of the Corona virus. Such an interpretation is fear mongering of the highest order.

 

Honestly. I read the OP and all I get was fear mongering. Italy closed its boarders because they can. Then what? The weather changes, folks stop being ill because of the cold, and then what? Is the OP suggesting that the US shut our boarders? Now that's rich given their history of posting... But sure, that's in the offing here, ostensibly.

Then what? The us shuts down it's boarders? To what end? I always get nervous when liberals start talking about shutting down liberty. You know they believe it's in their purview to do it, because they don't actually believe in freedoms. Just their needs and feelz....

Closing the borders right now would be the kind of meaningless feel good partisan idiocy that I would expect of the Cretin-in-Chief. It would accomplish exactly NOTHING as far dealing with the impending crisis is concerned.

What DOES NEED TO BE DONE is to stop all events where Covid-19 can spread. There needs to be CONTAINMENT zones defined around ALL of the outbreaks and travel authorized to and from these zones. Hospitals in these zones need to be stocked up with the necessary medications and treatments to deal with the most severe cases. Medical service personal need to be provided with backups from the military.

All of the above should be moving into place NOW so as to MINIMIZE the RISK of what is happening in Italy from occurring here.

This is a NONPARTISAN threat to the American People.

It needs to be taken SERIOUSLY otherwise We the People will end up PAYING for these FAILURES with our LIVES.

On the bright side, you can click on South Korea from your link and it does in fact show that the infection rate is dropping in South Korea.

2. We should close down all zones where an outbreak has occurred and restrict travel to and from these zones

The point is that this a SERIOUS issue and it needs an EFFECTIVE response ASAP if we want to AVOID ending up like Italy.
