Hurricane Ian is about to hit Florida. It is a major hurricane and is sure to do a lot of damage. Governor DeSantis is already declaring a state of emergency in Florida and has evacuation and disaster plans in place. From all indications, Florida is well-prepared for this hurricane. Obviously no one knows exactly what will happen where.

But it makes no difference. The left-wing media already has their headlines in place: "DeSantis Mishandled the Hurricane". That is guaranteed to be the 24 hour a day crap that comes out of the three networks, CNN and MSNBC.

President Biden will never be mentioned.

Remember Hurricane Katrina in 2005. New Orleans had a Democrat mayor, the grossly incompetent Ray Nagin, who eventually went to jail on corruption charges. The equally incompetent Democratic governor Kathleen Blanco and Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu led New Orleans into the greatest disaster in its history.

But who did the press blame? President George Bush. Why? He was the best Republican the press could find.

But magically, because the president is a Democrat and the governor, not only a Republican, but a Republican with Presidential aspirations, the attacks on DeSantis will come as soon as the first raindrops fall.

It makes no difference if not one life and house is lost, DeSanris will be attacked as if he were personally invading the Capitol on January 6th. Bank on it.

The lefty media will of course blame the FL governor for any mishaps. Because they can, safe from their comfortable offices, homes, etc. Of course what you will never see, these same journalists actually helping the people of FL by doing real effort. Just from afar criticism. Because, it's easy to do, doesn't take much effort, and pays...

My thoughts go out to the folks in the path. Looks like it will downgrade to perhaps CAT 2 at landfall, and perhaps even lower strength given the shear the storm will encounter as it gets closer to FL. Time will tell. The rain has been coming down in FL, and of course, that is most welcome.

The media blamed GWB because his FEMA director was a horse trainer, with no experience in emergency management, other than being a Bush crony. They also blamed GWB because of the condescending attitude of his mother against the poor, who were displaced by the storm.

As to DeSantis, we will see if he will throw government dollars at hurricane recovery, something the GOP usually abhors, unless it is one of their own spending the money. One thing we will be certain of is that Biden will be greeted with "Let's go Brandon" flags and chants, should he go to a disaster area. And then, the "Let's go Brandon" chanters will have their hands open for government dollars to bail them out.

[The media] blamed George Bush for the hurricane because of the [supposed] condescending attitude of his mother.

And here I thought they didn't have a good reason. Thanks for straightening that out.

They blamed George Bush because he was a Republican. Nothing else.

No matter what happens in this country, the left wing media will always blame the highest ranking Republican they can find, the water in Flint, Michigan is a perfect example.

I haven't seen that, but its a great shame he spent all that money in Texas when it was needed here at home.

Too late. They are already reporting him being in talks with the locals in FL, and approved the "state of emergency" declaration and ordered Federal assistance to be available.

It seems your crystal ball was wrong in both accounts.

One thing we know about DeSantis, - he has focused 100% on culture wars and totally ignored the insurance crises in Florida and that will hurt people if this storm destroys homes.

Former Governors Scott, Crist and Bush all went on national TV, like the Weather Channel and also local news to inform the public, but it seems DeSantis is choosing to not do that.

Well, he did make comments like "you're doing a heck of a job Brownie" when things couldn't have been any worse.

We'll see, but I do recall certain factions shifting 100% of the blame on governors for the close-downs (and governors shifting it on WH), but it seems the same factions are pre-emptively crying about the possibility of a governor being held responsible for hurricane response.

IMO DeSantis couldn't screw it up if he tried, since federal help has already been granted and Florida knows how to handle hurricanes with or without governors input.

Right. In theory DeSantis could sleep walk through this since Florida is well experienced in Hurricane management. But there will be fatalities, property damage, late first responder rescues, power delays...basically I expect the media will use anything as an opportunity to show him as an incompetent, because the media views him as a national threat.

    The stories are already written.

I agree. That did make Bush look bad. But that was because the entire media completely ignored the gross incompetence of local officials such as Ray Nagin not using hundreds of available school buses to evacuate people. Remember, the federal government gave Louisiana hundreds of $ millions years before that to strengthen the levees and local politicians squandered it.

I agree here too. But that's one of the reasons I am so sure that the media will jump on any failing of anyone's and point the finger at DeSantis.

I mean, they are obviously going to have to go after him on ANYTHING they can as he is currently looking like a strong potential presidential candidate. They might even have to send Jussie Smollett there to break a few windows if the hurricane doesn't do enough newsworthy damage

Well, he was the POTUS and he chose to involve himself and put his own boots on the ground with 'Brownie', so of course he drew the attention. No one even knew who Nagin was until FOX embarked on a massive blame campaign against him.

I don't get it why people feel he should be treated with silk gloves. So what if they criticize him? He makes a living criticizing everyone else, so why should he be immune from the same? However, I don't think he, or anyone, will be blamed for potential deaths, while he is almost certain to point his finger at someone. That kind of blame game has not happened before in FL and we have had many hurricanes including many during politically divisive Governors like Scott. Bush and Crist were not divisive, so maybe they are a different story, but Scott was on TV every day advising people about the situation, and no one blamed him for the destruction.

You're missing the point. My position is that the media sees this as their big chance to attack DeSantis because they hate him, irrespective of how Florida does with the hurricane. Just as they jumped on the fake stories of Trump and the Democratic party myths of Russian collusion, grabbing the steering wheel, and stealing 'nuclear secrets' to sell to our enemies.

The president talked mainly to mayors, most of them democrats, but not the governor of the state.

Perhaps we can discuss if that actually happens as opposed to engaging in pre-emptive complaints about the media not being PC enough.

Trump managed to get GOP politicians to see themselves as perpetual victims who can never be criticized, and if they are, they scream off the top of their lungs, and now they resort to pre-emptive whining. It makes them look weak. Look at how FOX and other RW media tear into Biden, and it rolls off like water off a ducks back. Same with all the F**K Biden flags and chants. He may well be the least inspiring POTUS we ever had but at least he doesn't spend his days whining about "unfair" treatment. He ignores it. If you listen to Trump speeches, they are founded on whining about how unfair the world is to him. I mean......seriously. Its weak, and now DeSantis is following suit.

Lets see what happens the storm and the media and then we can decide if DeSantis tears are justifiable.

No I'm not. I'm making a prediction. If CNN names DeSantis Man of the Year for his stellar response to the hurricane I'll gladly say I was wrong, but I don't think that's going to happen.

yep.... Democrats have the DOJ in their back pockets, Big Tech in their back pockets, MSM in their back pocket.... select judges in the Judicial that will make things go their way.... They have been playing us since Obama was in office and attempt a failed coup against an American citizen and the a duly elected president...nothing will change until the Congress is taken back by the voters and Republicans.
It does not matter if DeSantis was to become president... the left will go after him with every thing they have with the most frivolous crap all 4years just like the did Trump...
It would be unwise for DeSantis to stand in front of the map with a projected path on it... Remember the public show trial we had in the media when Trump did it...

You can compare them to all Canada. Many times lower covid death rate.

British Columbia is a good comparison because it, too, has a high percentage of retirees, a large cruise industry, had public schools open except for a couple of months in early 2020.

DeSantis could have done much better.

I hope you intend to judge him on what he does, not how he dresses in jackets, visits hard hit areas, talks to people, mugs for the cameras.

You mean like how liberals judged Andrew Cuomo on the pandemic before they finally accepted he killed 15,000 elderly people in nursing homes and molested half his staff?

They blamed him because he was the president when it happened, just like ya'll are doing with the inflation and Biden and just like the left did with Trump and the economic downturn in 2020. Just like Bush and his inept FEMA director, Biden does bear some responsibility, but just like with Bush the critics try and lay it entirely at his feet. It's stupid and totally political.

The "liberals" kicked out Cuomo, and Spitzer, and Weiner, and Franken, and Edwards... When was the last time the GOP kicked out one of their degenerates? No, they actually embrace them.

Back to the OP: What do you think Fox News and Newsmax will do with Biden? They'll rip him a new one whatever he does. If he doesn't go to the disaster zone, he'll be painted as uncaring and out of touch. If he goes, it's just for a photo op. Whatever he does, the "f Biden" flags will be there.

Neither side is blameless in this regard.
