Great point ! Better I should have written that incarceration as punishment for crime is relatively new. Incarceration, in general, is nothing new. Indeed, many people have been incarcerated simply because their captors were willing and able to do so.
Do convicts have a right to cable tv? What about fully equipped gyms and college education? If some Americans can’t afford these things, why is it given to convicted criminals?
You obviously need to take an economics class. The ultra_wealthy provide jobs for us working stiffs. Whether being directly as a businessman or through investments, their money doing the work for them. I don't want the government controlling how much I make, or what I can do with my money. That's up to me andy family. You may be one of those be that need someone too take care of them, but I am not one.
Because the guards and administration understand full well that if prisoners are kept occupied with such things, they are much less likely to cause trouble. An idle mind is the Devil's workshop. It's true.
That’s why I want them to work to get credit for time spent. They should be growing their own crops, tending livestock, making furniture for government buildings. They can use their work experience to get jobs when they get out. The suck factor will minimize return trips.
