There's a saying that when the pendulum moves so far in one direction, it will eventually swing back to the opposite extreme. Or a saying that if you go far enough ideologically to the extreme Left, you'll eventually arrive at the same place that you would if you had gone to the extreme Right; that the political spectrum actually sort of circles back upon itself. With the latest development happening in our society, white police officers are afraid of dealing with black suspects, because if something goes wrong, if they have to use physical force, they may very likely end up being accused of racism. Maybe be fired or even be sentenced to a very long time in prison if they make even the slightest mistake. I predict in any incident involving a black man resisting arrest, they will want a big black officer on the scene to be able to "handle" him, without being accused of racism. This is probably already happening in many areas. I predict police may even have some sort of code word for "black man", signaling that they need a black officer to arrive on the scene. Interestingly, this will sort of be just like going back to the old days where black officers were told they couldn't make arrests on white suspects (not without a white officer present). Except now it will be the reverse. Just another example of society progressing so far away from racism that now the opposite extreme has reached the same type of racist direction? It has come about full circle.
The political spectrum is a circle (or even a sphere). Stalin and Hitler were 'opposites', yet both resulted in states that were effectively identical. 'Left' vs 'right' is a false dichotomy. The real struggle is liberty vs authoritarianism, voluntary cooperation vs coersion, love vs force.
Where did you get this little factoid? "white police officers are afraid of dealing with black suspects". I think that is total nonsense, pearl clutching hysteria right-wing style. The po-po better start staying within the law and being competent. Those that don't should be worried, most aren't while dealing with their community. Holding officers accountable for misdeeds will increase the trust of the black community and improve relations in the long run.
Here's another example of "The more things change, the more they stay the same" Not my words but this comes from a progressive black activist: Why People of Color Need Spaces Without White People People of color need their own spaces. Black people need their own spaces. We need places in which we can gather and be free from the mainstream stereotypes and marginalization that permeate every other societal space we occupy. We need spaces where we can be our authentic selves without white people’s judgment and insecurity muzzling that expression. We need spaces where we can simply be--where we can get off the treadmill of making white people comfortable and finally realize just how tired we are. Valuing and protecting spaces for people of color (PoC) is not just a kind thing that white people can do to help us feel better; supporting these spaces is crucial to the resistance of oppression. When people of color are together, there can be healing. We can reclaim parts of ourselves that have been repressed. We can redefine ourselves and support one another in embracing who we are. The necessity of these spaces is obvious to me as a woman of color learning to embrace layers of my own identity by being in community with other Black and brown bodies. The Arrow | Why People of Color Need Spaces Without White People (arrow-journal.org), by Kelsey Blackwell In other words, segregation of one group of people to protect themselves from another group. Except, unlike in past history, it's not whites trying to separate themselves from blacks but blacks trying to create a "safe space" from whites. When things start "progressing" so far that the radical progressives start sounding like the ideologies they were historically fighting against.
Radical progressives? African Americans have always had their "safe spaces" in Black churches, fraternities, clubs, bars, barbershops, hair salons....where they can be Black free of judgement. I remember, in college, I was watching TV with a Black friend when Sanford and Son came on. After a bit he became uncomfortable and I could tell he was embarrassed and he asked to turn the channel. I doubt a white watching Hee Haw with a Black would be embarrassed by dumb white people on TV. I believe the reason is, African Americans have gotten the message that their culture is not as good as the dominant culture and feel constantly judged inferior by the dominant culture especially if they use Black vernacular, ect. As I've noted before conservatives have an empathy deficit.
