Obviously whoever follows Trump will need to repair this country both internationally and domestically and actually be able to get things done as well as work with the other branches of our government. Please list who you believe can accomplish these things.

For myself I think we will actually need someone non Republican because they will not be crippled coming in by this congress and residual Trumpism.

I'm going with Kasich or Joe Kennedy.

At this point, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to say.

But, obviously, everyone (Democratic, Republican, Independent, Etc.) is praying that the DAMAGE that Trump is currently doing (to the American Republic and American International Prestige) isn't IRREVERSIBLE.

It's far too early for this, but nevertheless, I will make a bold prediction: Trump will not get a second term, and it will not be the democrats who unseat him.

democrats need to produce a candidate that is for the people. They have moved away from that to their detriment. Corporatist shills are the death of that party.

Trump's presidency is the perfect opportunity but honestly I think they are blowing it. They could be more introspective and learn that the reason Trump (of all people) won the past election is because he spoke more to the common man. The blue coller workers and middle and lower classes. He addressed their concerns.

Of course this means that democrats may have to abandon some of their platforms like absolutist multiculturalism, social justice nonsense, and globalistic ideals.

I don't doubt a great democrat can be on the horizon. A Kennedy-esque democrat as it were. But just as the republicans need to drain their proverbial swamp democrats need to as well.

We are on the cusp of something good.

Don't froget tax cuts and returning jobs to America

I think the ax will fall on republcians in congress before it reaches trump

But as I keep pointing out trump is not a swamp creature who will make any compromise too keep his job in washington

He wil stick to his agenda and let the second term fend for itself

I'm stating the obvious here but first we need to somehow survive the next 3.5 years under Trump.
Right now, he is such a drama-llama that every day feels like a full month, and a shitty one at that.

Trump proves you wrong in is telephone conversatino with Peno, where he clearly stated that the wall was "the least important thing". In other words, he only said all that gross stuff into order to gin up outrage. So yeah, he would make any compromise to keep his job in Washington. Look how suddenly he went from being a birther to being a non-birther.... he is a chameleon and you know it just as well as I.

Do you honestly think he cares about coal workers in W. Virginia? No, he does not.

    Yes.

    Stating the OBVIOUS.

Every day of the Trump Administration (to the 3/4 of America that don't support him) is like serving a Long, Cruel (and Underserved) Prison Sentence (with an abusive cellmate).

Trump Presidency = A Living Hell.

    Period. Case closed. :salute:

    Huh?

Got enough Tinfoil Hat with that?

Oh well, whoever succeeds Trump is sure to be better (given the abysmally low bar that Trump is setting).

Long way to go. Plus, the left has to conjure up someone who isn't a serial liar/criminal to run on their side. They have a lot of catching up to do. The 5 special elections all went to the right, congress, and the presidency (along with governorship). The right is purely dominating. The left needs someone REALLY outstanding to win in 2020

Who knows? 3 1/2 years is a very long time. Let's just hope whomever it is isn't chosen in a meeting 4 years before the nomination process begins.

My recommendation would be a fresh face from flyover country. Not someone from the Northeast or west coast. Much like Obama in 2008 or Bill Clinton in 1992, Jimmy Carter in 1976. All won. Those who lost Hillary Clinton, New York, John Kerry, Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis Massachusetts.

I don't know if it will. However if Trump manages to lower taxes by 30% and bring a lot of work into America I think people will forget about the border wall and the ACA for the most part.

Trump isn't a politician he's a businessman. I think that's one of the reasons why people liked him.

one of my biggest issues with the presidency and politicians in general is the first term they're so focused on being reelected in the second term there's nothing to hope them to. I think cutting it back to one turn per President would be a good idea. But I don't think that's going to happen.

I think it would behoove Trump to focus solely on his campaign promises and delivering them and forget about reelection when it comes time to run again run he can run on his record.

    Psst.

Kasich is a Republican. You think even " going independent" would change that?

Kasich is a Republican in the "Old" mold and would be called a RINO in todays atmosphere, just as I am.
