I have copied here a post I originally made in a thread about a 7-year-old transgendered kid. I thought this was noteworthy enough to merit discussion. I'm not questioning the moderators, or administrators, or whoever decides what automatic electronic features will be operational on a medium of communications. But I must say I was surprised by being electronically censored. That has never happened in any discussion board in which I have ever participated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In my last post, the word "d" "a" "m" "n" was censored (the sentence was, "I look purty "d" "a" "m" "n" ugly even wearing Armani.") That's rather thorough-going, don't you think? Heck (whew, lessee if that gets through), even www.opednews.com only sends you an automatic caution any time you inadvertently or intentionally include a word from their list in an article you are posting. What does anybody think about that? I know there must be a wide range of opinion. If you don't respond to this here, because it is off-topic, you may respond to it as my first, virgin, new topic here at politicalforum.com. Isn't that exciting. Yay. I appreciate the welcomes from all who have extended them! William P. Homans Clarksdale, Mississippi
I expect this to get moved if not deleted entirely. But I do think it's a valid topic to discuss. I think some of the filters on here are a bit excessive and they're not even all that consistent. For example, why is it that you can say dick but you can't say (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) (rhymes with wussy)? Both are slang terms for genitalia and can be used as insults, but both also have perfectly normal and socially acceptable meanings as well. So why is one acceptable and the other not?
Excellent. If "they" move it or delete it entirely, well, so be it. I would expect that from the mainstream media, but it took me aback at a discussion forum. TheHat tells me that there are actually children posting here, though. My daughter, btw, has miraculously grown up a non-pottymouth without any more than very occasional guidance from me, although her mother is an uninhibited venter of ptofanity. Thank you for getting back to me, Unifier. At least one guru (and I have known a couple) is neither terrorized or lacking in sense. WPH from MS
I too was amazed at some of the words that hit the profanity filter...especially that (*)(*)(*)(*) word...Huh??? why can't you say (*)(*)(*)(*)ed??? You can say ass and hell but not (*)(*)(*)(*)ed...
I was surprised in a post I made a few days back when I stated that HBO turned an eluded to sexual orientation into a full-blown ****-sucking scene. But don't say (*)(*)(*)(*)!
