The NFL and the players union and management and the players don't care what their opponents think.

Moral turpitude! When the NFL allows players that go to jail for fighting dogs or abusing women, taking a knee isn't going to cost someone their job… and it didn't.

Get the feeling: America's game. Freedoms game. Choose to play it. Choose to watch it.

But it COULD have repercussions! If that's what the NFL wanted. And that's the point.

Robert Griffin III was fined $10,000 for wearing a t-shirt it's rules did not approve of.
"Griffin dressed in full uniform during the game, but the NFL requires players to follow their uniform rules before the game, too."
    http://www.espn.com/nfl/trainingcam...ington-redskins-fined-10000-apparel-violation
He was also fined $10,000 the year before for wearing Adidas gear to a post game press conference when the NFL has a deal with Nike to
only wear their gear at these functions.

Sometimes their rules matter. And then sometimes they don't.

We see the NFL's priorities at work and how little they think of the paying customer.

The NFL decides the rules, not a junked up far right minority who don't like black people talking or acting uppity.

The crowd at Lambeau Field last night seems to tell a different story....

Yeah they certainly did. Arron Rodgers asked the fans to link arms in unity with the team and though a few did the 'far right minority' didn't, they stood with hand over heart or saluted during the anthem. The President and most Americans won this one. Just today 3 teams, Pittsburg included announced they WILL STAND FOR THE ANTHEM. My feeling, more will follow.

"I'm just here so I don't get fined." - Marshawn Lynch

When you are contractually required to answer reporters questions, and you want to protest, you do what Marshawn Lynch did. He answered every single question with the quote above.

Will forcing players to stand sell more merchandise, tickets, or add to viewership on television? No
Will forcing players to stand make them better football players? No

If you really want to force players to feign patriotism, what have you proven? Nothing, except you want to force your way on others, rather than protect free speech in this country. The DOD figured out that paid patriotism was a bad idea and stopped paying the NFL and other professional sports for advertising and pageantry used for military recruiting. Until they paid the NFL, teams/ players didn't take the field for pre-game pageantry like the anthem.

The vast majority (84%) support the NFL players' right to protest. Most, like me, don't like the method that was chosen, but respect the right to do it. The NFL has stated they respect players right to protest.

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/poll-84-people-support-nfl-players-right-protest-164811638.html

If you want to remove your participation and money from the NFL over this, then do so. If people want to force this issue politically, IMO, you'll get the anthem removed from games, the teams will stay in the locker rooms until kickoff, or both.

The NFL is betting that most people side on free speech issue with them. We'll see what happens.

No one claims paying minimal respect while the national anthem plays makes one a better player. However will it add the the NFL's financial bottom line? The answer is an unqualified yes!
Just look at the sagging viewer rates for NFL products during the Kaepernick follies if you don't believe it. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/10/nfl-ratings-are-down-why.php

No one thinks Richard Sherman, for example, is suddenly more patriotic because he is forced to at least stand during the national anthem. This is about obeisance for the flag. If Sherman thinks the nation is a horrible racist place
let him say so during the 23 hours and 58 minutes out of his day when he is not on the sidelines of an NFL game.
Those two minutes, if that, are reserved for the anthem. He can have the rest...or is that too unreasonable?

Free speech is not in question because every player in the league is free to make their feelings known in a multitude of ways (rather than disrespecting the flag, and by extension the nation, by kneeling when it is presented pre game).
    .

I think a poll of NFL fans would be a more appropriate yardstick and based on numbers already cited fan interest in the league has dropped off noticeably.

The NFl is already backing down as teams will stand for the anthem with arms linked now. The owners and commissioner see their economic bottom line being threatened and with all due respect, if you think they will choose to back a BLM type movement over the well being of their wallets you are only fooling yourself.

or if Player has engaged in personal conduct reasonably judged by Club to adversely affect or reflect on Club, then Club may terminate this contract.
